My name is Claire & I live in central CT. I started riding a bike to work before our gas prices went over $4 a gallon which was back in April. The last time I put $30 worth of gas in my mini van was 3 weeks ago. Now our gas is $4.30 a gallon.

I ride a 1999 GT Slipstream that I absolutely adore! I put streamers, a horn, rear luggage rack & huge mirror on her to help me with my commute. Well the streamers don't help with the commute but they are cool. hehe

My goal is to ride 4 out of 5 days, so far I've reached that goal once.

Thanks.

Sounds like good planning. How many days per week have you been biking? How far do you commute?

Rosie8,

I average 3 days of riding per week. I don't ride in heavy rains or on Friday. We go grocery shopping on Friday after work. The 5pm is way too aggressive with me & I don't have the luxury of waiting until 5:30pm to leave work so I drive.

My trip to work via car is 3.1 miles each way so I know it's a pinch shorter on the bike. I purchased a clock/speedo/tripo/odo but I am having trouble getting the odo to work. I need to figure out their formula to convert to MM.

I leave my house at 7:55a or 8a & it takes me 15-20 minutes depending which lights I get stuck at.

Today will be the first time I ride in temps over 80. It's supposed to be 97 with 100% humitidy up here today.

Thanks,
Claire & The Girls

Good for you! 3 miles is a neat commute--I'll bet you'll be wanting a longer one before too long...

I've been commuting since April 29th & I love it!

You are correct I do crave longer rides. And because of this, I've signed up for a 28 mile ride on June 28th in New Haven.

Here is a link to the ride. They are offering 28, 45 & 100 mile rides.

I'm originally from CT, there's some really great roads up there for sightseeing while you ride. Sadly some pretty tight roads too. Be safe! If you have a mountain bike there is a really great stop along 25 (I think thats the route), right when you get into Trumbull that has incredible off-road riding.
