Frustrating Commute Today

Man! Today's commute from work to home was my worst yet. I spent yesterday installing some freddy fenders on my bike and took a test ride which went smooth. I ride to work this morning and everything is good with the fenders. So I get on my bike to ride home and I immediately hear the rear fender rubbing the tire. Puzzled, I stopped to take a look and everything appeared as it should. I fiddled with it and managed to get the fender to a spot where the rubbing is minimal. I start off again and get about a block when the rubbing returns. I'm getting pissed at this point because I'm not getting why this is happening. So, I remove the rear fender and pack it into my bag and while doing so, I noticed the front tire is now looking a little low in the air department. I blow it off thinking I'm not looking at it right so I get back on the bike and off I go. I get about a mile when I can't deny to myself the front tire is getting flat. DAMMIT! Now I have to find a safe place to change the tube because I'm in an area known to be rough. I find such a place where I can see who or what is coming and don't have to worry about who's sneaking up behind me. I make sure to check the inside of tire prior to installing a new tube and finish the job in about 10 minutes. I'm back on the road and get to within 1/2 mile of home when I realize that both tires are getting flat. AHHH!!! I make it home with a flat rear tire and a almost flat (again) front tire. Now after I finish this post, I'll be in the garage getting my bike back up and running for tomorrow. I hope your commute today was better than mine...

After going through all of that would you consider getting tire liners?

By coincidence my commute yesterday was the worst also. I was struggling into a strong headwind until I got a flat. (the second in the past week) My normal 45 minute ride turned into 75 minutes because my tire was such a pain to get off and on. Luckily I had a spare tube. The ride home was in driving rain the whole way. I realize it could be much worse (I didn't crash, break something expensive, or hurt myself), but some days bike commuting is not fun. I have new Schwalbe Marathon tires on order.

I was impressed how many other bike commuters stopped to offer help when I was repairing my flat. I broke down on a bike path and at least 5-10 people offered to help during the 30 minutes I was wrestling with my tire.
