I really love commuting on the bike
when I can get out of the house early, before the street really comes alive, get on the road before the masses start their daily trek, when the day is just waking up, with the birds chirping, the sun just starting to warm, the breeze just so darn slight. Sheesh! I did not want to stop at the office! I just wanted to keep going!!!

Yep. Even at this time of year my ride in is pre-dawn.

I leave the house every day around 4:30 for my 75-90 minute ride to work. Being out on the empty roads and watching the sun rise while getting some exercise is the highlight of my day! Even in the winter, when it is much colder out. I still look forward to this time.

Right on gentlemen. I wish my commute were longer, I love it also for the same reasons.
The experience of rolling my bike out the front door is so much more zen and relaxing than the experience of hopping into my truck and turning the key. It always makes me feel happy.
I also love coming back to see my bike waiting for me on the otherwise empty bike rack.

Me, too.
Only just got back into it a few weeks ago, but I'm totally addicted, now--to the point that I think I'm more depressed and grumpy than I used to be on the days I can't use the bike. It's like withdrawal.

Yes early morning is great. I have rode to work several times the past few weeks. The air is cool, about 70 right now@ 5:30. The ride home isnt much fun at 7 miles mostly up hill! in Las vegas heat. I try to fit in night rides mostly on spare time, more enjoyable and less dangerous imo, with proper lights etc. Less cars=less danger

You know, there is an easy fix to this.
I know what you mean here, although every now and then when there is another bike out there I wonder if my bike didn't feel quite so lonely that day. I'm easily amused - what can I say.

i love the coolish (mid 70s) morning commute because it's quiet and calm and I leave about 10 minutes before sunrise so it's beautiful. But I love the afternoon commute because it's hot (95º+ and humid), challenging and I always have more energy in the PM.
I just feel lucky.

Thats me too, I always have more energy in the afternoon too> I wonder why that is it seems like I'm trying to pedal a Mac truck to work in the morning but in the afternoon I think man this bike is pretty light and I always get home faster. Must be the mental thing about going to work as opposed to going home.

My commute is short, maybe 4.3 miles or so. One short climb, then a long gradual downhill to the site. Usually I ride in around 6 or 6:30, which at this time of year has a temp of 55-60. Afternoon is usually 70-80 with a headwind, and that long uphill climb. But I don't mind it.
