Commuter racing LULZ.
So I passed a roadie going down Yonge st. this morning and he thought I was trying to race him... so he decided to attack... and everytime he looked backed to see me still there he'd attack again.
He finally gave up about 6km later.
Owned?

Even if he was on mile 50 and you were on mile 10, he did acknowledge that "it was on" and apparently couldn't drop you. Win!

Why? It's unwritten law that if two cyclists are going the same direction and they aren't part of the same group, they are racing.
Me with my commuting buddies (who've been MIA for a few weeks): Not Racing.
My group stumbles across someone and pass them? They ALWAYS chase us.
Someone passes me or my group? Chase time.
It's always fun, even if you can't keep up. Gotta keep it interesting somehow.

It only counts if the other rider is someone who, by all rights, should be able to keep up. If I'm passed by a 20'something athlete on a carbon bike it doesn't count as a loss for me or a win for them.
If, however, that same rider can't pull away from me, then yes, owned.

TJspiel sorry you are wrong. Industrial you are right. If he engaged than you were racing. However as you did not actually pass him this one is a tie or loss for you sorry. Lilbrownbat it is kinda stupid but its fun too.

+1 I commute alone (nobody commutes much in there parts let alone in groups) and if I get passed by a group of super heroes or happen to see one in the distance Its on like donkey kong. EVen if i'm on the cruiser and stand zero chance... its ON.

I raced 5 very fast racers over a 70 mile course that was quite hilly with my electric lwb recumbent bicycle and beat all 5 of them! I was back at the starting point a good 8 minutes before them!! LOL I could never have beaten them without the power assist, so I totally respect their ability. I also think that it's cool that a 40 something guy can add a minimal amount of power like that provided by an electric motor, controller, and batteries and then manage to beat the fastest riders around. Imagine how fast these guys would be on my bike? LOL

I got behind a roadie this morning on a vintage raleigh racing bike. He was riding well and I just picked up his cadence and followed at speed for a while. I passed him at a light and he followed me the same way for a while. We weren't racing, more like pacing, and we weren't going all out... more like team riding, still really fun. He got split off by a really nasty maneuver by a campus maintenance dude in a golf cart; I was still close enough to hear his choice words for the dude. He caught up and wished me a safe ride before turning right and leaving my route. Totally fun, semi-competitive moment for both of us...

ha. raced, if that's what you wanna call it, 2 fixies today. but it wasn't really, i passed up going up a hill.. one of um yelled "alright, it's on" then remembered he didn't have gears... but i was really just riding...

Let's see... I got out early today - I'm in the financial industry. Wall Street closes, so do we.
I rarely get to ride home at lunch time. This was interesting.
I got dropped by a pair of carbon-fiber superheroes who were drafting a trash truck. No thanks to drafting someone else's garbage. I let them go on their merry way, but not without a nice sprint to 37 MPH (for about 2 seconds) on Hybridzilla. Followed by about 2 minutes at 25 MPH. Followed by 10 minutes of 12 MPH and me panting like a dog. Oh yeah. I'm still out of shape. And the roadies are goners.
Then on the MUP section, I was spacing out (didn't eat lunch and still recovering from the sprint) some ye-olde geezer on a flat-bar road bike passes me.
Passes: 0
Passed: 3
I fail so hard at this racing stuff.
