I got to be a good samaritan this morning.

Nothing real major, but I was getting off the ferry in the city this morning, so I was at the back of the boat where all the bicycles are parked, and one of the other passengers asked me and the guy I was talking to if either of us had any wrenches. He was a new guy, I hadn't seen him on the ferry before (I recognize most of the regular bike commuters), and he had a brand new Trek hybrid on which the seat had come loose. I dug my allen key set out of my bag and let him tighten up his seat so he could ride the rest of the way to work.

It was a minor thing I did, but hopefully it was helpful and encouraging and hopefully I'll see him on the ferry again tomorrow. I'd hate for him to have gotten discouraged by a broken seat on one of his first commute days.

Karma is never minor. Especially if you helped keep the guy on his bike.

if you encouraged the guy to stay on the bike, you did a lot. i usually try to stop if i see someone repairing their bike on the side of the road, if nothing else it shows you're looking out for each other.

Well done. Stuff like this helps keep that community feeling amongst cyclists.

I'm more of a "as ye sow so shall ye reap" type person. about every type spiritual belief system has some kind of belief in what come around goes around do good and good comes to you,do bad and bad things return Helping some one is always the right thing to do and what might seem minor to you may save a major problem down the line

for A job well Done

Good! I would have been pretty happy to be the guy that needed help and find someone that would help me! The other day, i came by someone who was walking beside his bike in the middle of nowhere, so I stopped to ask him if he needed help, and he told me that he was resting his legs , nothing I can do for that!

I will say this. I was stopped on the side of the bike path the other day to adjust my panniers. 4 different people stopped and asked if I needed help with anything...it was bike rush hour in Boise. =)

It felt pretty good to know that everyone was willing to stop an offer a hand...I was kind of surprised actually. You did a good thing.

I saw his bike on the ferry on the way home last night, so he must still be commuting. It's actually a Giant, not a Trek. One of these: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-US/...36/29313/zoom/

That is pretty cool that you were able to help. Did you happen to mention multi-tools to him? Kind of goes along with the saying "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he eats every day."
