I stopped by the drug store on my way home last night (it was one of my days to drive) and noticed that they had put sturdy bars in the outside walls at the right height for locking up bikes. They were curved and looked kind of like a really heavy duty towel bar, and someone must have really thought this out because they blended in with the rest of the building and there plenty of them.

Had you or anyone asked for them to add something for cyclists? My drug store doesn't have diddly. I just fold up and bring it in with me. I'm curious if asking for a rack would make any difference.

Odd you sould mention drug store stops. Once when I had a quick errand to run to the local drugstore. I looked around the front and found a nice rigid signpost in front of the handicap parking. Evidently it was one of those frequent times when my brain shuts down because as I exited the store I saw that with minimal effort one could just lift my bike and still locked cable neatly up and over the sign making a no hassle escape for a savvy thief. Or even an underachieving thief for that matter.

I've always wondered about that. If the bike is properly locked then the wheels are locked to the frame. Therefore the thief would have to carry the bike. Anyone paying attention would notice that the bike was locked. If they were great people they'd look into it. Unfortunately, in all likelihood the thief would escape

No, I hadn't mentioned it. The store is fairly new, and it looks like the bars were installed when the store was built. I wouldn't have noticed them if I hadn't been looking at the Honda Ruckus that was locked to one of them, and then noticed that there were other bars along the 2 sides of the store that face the parking lot.
