Bike Service Interval

What is the normal service interval for routine bike maintenance? Outside of the normal tire check, chain lube, and wipedown/clean, how often should a complete look over/tighten/adjust service be done?

I am not to the point yet that I am comfortable doing this "5,000 mile oil change" myself and will have the LBS do it.

Thanks!

Other than what you mentioned, i do everything else (replace brake pads, replace chain/cassette, tighten cables, adjust derailleur, etc) on an as needed basis. It never needs everything at once.

Once a year. If you ride so much that you can't go a whole year, then you need to buy another bike or two and spread the miles around. If your bike doesn't look and feel like it needs some attention after a year, you need to ride more.
