Idea for a PSA

This morning I woke up after a less than restful night's sleep and debated whether I should ride to work. (Granted, this was 4:00 in the morning.) I finally just decided to go ahead and ride. By the time I got to work, I felt great and wondered why I ever doubted myself. That got me thinking: there have been several threads lately about how to raise bicycle commuting awareness. I think I have an idea.

PSA
We all have this inner voice that tells us:
It's too hard.
It's too far.
It's too hot.
It's too cold.
It's too dangerous.
What if it rains?
What if it snows?
What if I get a flat?
What will my neighbors think?
What will my co-workers think?
It won't make a difference.
It's time to find that inner voice
and silence it.

Now, picture each line being spoken by a different person (a bicycle commuter), maybe having the line echo and/or the keys words scroll by in the background and the last line spoken by someone famous (like Lance Armstrong) then at the end have the words "Bike to Work" as a logo.

So, whatta think?

That looks pretty good. I may run it by the local bike coop, modify it and have them submit it the the radio station where I volunteer. Heck, have then send it to the other 3 college stations in town.

It would be a good tie in for the adult bike drivers education class they do once a month. All day training in how to safely ride in traffic and such.

I would like some feedback (any "excuses" I may have missed, etc.). I'd like to try and pitch this to the Ad Council and/or LAB.

If it's visual, you might think about clips of people doing the things that are said to be "too", or providing some kind of visual counterpoint, maybe? Like "what if it snows", show someone chugging along through the snow..."what will my co-workers think", show someone wheeling their bike into the office, being greeted by a co-worker who admires the bike...something like that.

Sounds kinda white and nerdy. It just seems to serious to me. I think that a PSA that focused on the positives of bike commuting as opposed to the negatives would be more effective.

Read Lil Brown Bat's post and the last line of the PSA.

Maybe there should be 2 versions -- one that has the excuses and one that has the many benefits.

Sweet..... can I fit all that on a t-shirt and still be readable????

In all honesty..... take out "What if I get a flat" and you can apply it to almost anything. Running, walking, riding.......

I e-mailed the head of Public Relations for our campus about my idea and asked for her help and she's going to get back with me later this week (or early next week).
