David Byrne designs bike racks for NYC with a difference. |
I love it, He just keeps popping back up every few years, always doing something cool.
They may not be the most practical best racks ever, but so what, they get attention which is good for the bike movement, and public art is a worthy societal expenditure, |

That guy just has a good kind of crazy going on!
I'm actually thinking that they will have to mark his bike racks with signs, so that people know that they are for locking bikes and not just art alone. ...I can just imagine someone saying, "You can't lock your bike to that sculpture." Otherwise, it's a way cool means of making bike racks aesthetically pleasing. |
Well i already thought David Byrne was pretty cool, but knowing he's a bike enthusiast makes him the shizz in my book.

Headlines cyclists ruining city sculptures!!! Nice racks. :innocent: |
David Byrne is and always has been the shizz and he never stops. From the Heads - good advice for commuters, "stay one step ahead of yourself"!

Excellent.
Denver could use something like that. Possibly shaped like different weapons, ICBMs, etc. |

David Byrne designs bike racks for NYC with a difference. Looks like he's taken a page from the Gehry school of architecture. The problem with bike racks that I've heard of is not that businesses don't think they look nice enough--it's just that most businesses don't want to pay to put them in.... So to build bike racks that are more expensive but look cuter is not really helping the problem of there being not enough bike racks.

I saw him live in 2004 or 05 in Athens, it was the best live show Ive ever seen, like 2 hours of nothing but Talking Heads and his amazing voice...
My fav parts were "Naturally when your hanging out with David Byrne its as much about the journey as the destination"... "Were almost, almost somewhere" |

I always thought the lyrics of his that gave best cycling advice were "Look where you're going. You don't even know what you're knowing." Cool racks, too. |
