Outlaw Ride with Director's Commentary - Video 4min.

Lots of outlaws on the road besides me today. I subtitled this one with the thoughts I would have been thinking - if there was time to think.

The best moment occurs at the exact same intersection as the (now infamous) "Truck Punch" video. A FedEx truck decides to ride on the sidewalk WITH ME (1:50). What fun!

Cool vid. Keep making 'em.

"Thank god the price of gas went down."

lol. Now here's a question for ya, would you rather pay more for food and stuff, or have less crowded streets? Tough choice.

I like the "Bless you and your turn signal!" Whenever anyone in front of me uses their signal, I say a thank (even though I know they can't hear me). It's probably a 50/50 proposition.

Wow...just wow. Great stuff. Checked out a few of your other postings, too. Makes me wish I'd videoed my commutes when I used to ride urban. No wonder I was edgy and aggressive. My rural commute is nice and peaceful, but...BORING. Bookmarked your site. Seeing things like this is what keeps me motivated about cycling. Thanks, Joey

BTW, was with that Fed-Ex driver? Nice skills to 'thread the needle' there. Whattajerk!

Well with that traffic, at those speeds, and on those narrow streets... I can see why you ride like you do... but I still can't condone running the reds.

On the flip side... a strict VC rider would still be stuck back on the first street behind the first car. LOL

Stay healthy Joey.

I'm really glad a couple of folks asked that question!

He was on his effing cell phone. You can plainly hear him yelling into it as I pass on the original video with live sound. That explains no turn signal too.

I thought about naming my production company Bat Rastard Productions and sending film clips to Taxi, Delivery, and Cop's bosses when they screw up. But...I'm just not that guy. Besides, I think the average life expectancy for delivery drivers in the French Quarter is 2 months. Suicide usually.

I never dreamed he would ride up that far on the sidewalk, but you can see the surface is all broken up - probably a regular "parking space" for deliveries.

EDIT: I was just looking at my Xmas Eve Eve ride vid and guess what? The FedEx truck is parked RIGHT THERE! Xmas Eve Eve. See (2:45)

This particular vid was speed-bumped up 25 percent faster. Due to very complicated lens/camera physics, the original video with the helmet mount looks about 25 percent slower. If I mount the camera lower - on the handlebars - the speed looks correct without the tweaking.

Unscientific, but all of the fellas I ride with think the 25 percent bump looks most like what we see while riding. I think 15-20 percent is better, but my editing program does not give me a choice lower than 25.

Cheers

Whether you sped it up or not, I am judging your speed relative to the other traffic around you... how you tend to either pass or keep up with that traffic... it makes a big difference to move past traffic vice being passed as if you are standing still.

I kinda slapped this one together in a rush. Wed night is "Date Night" for my wife and I (yes....with each other!). It's the only week night we both get off early. So it was late when I got started and since watching it a couple of times I found more opportunity for commentary. Like:

At least two more burnt out brake lights and an illegal "Zombie Crossing" - 3 peds marching into the street mid block - not too far passed the FedEx truck. Oh well. Next time.

do you call fedex and report drivers like the one in your video? you already know the license plate. i wonder if any city officials of new Orleans have seen your videos. some laws could use some changing.

Nah. Professional drivers in the French Quarter are already in Hell. Getting him fired could only improve his life. Plus, I would be reporting people every day, especially on the way to work at 9:30 AM when beer trucks are delivering, hotel service (laundry etc) trucks, limos and taxis at hotel checkout time, and on and on. Mayhem. I wouldn't have any time for editing videos!

I often wonder if the cops have seen the vids. Wouldn't take long if one of them found my stuff before links were Emailed all over the district. As for other officials like the City Council and the Mayor? I seriously doubt they are paying attention to my antics with all of the "serious" crime here.

BINGO!

I have a blog of sorts devoted to that cause: https://joey-bike.blogspot.com/

One of my pet peeves is the "Ride to the Right" rule. I might as well just go out to the driveway and slam my face into my wife's car door right now. Also, I would like to see every major city adopt the stop sign=yield and stop light=stop & go laws. For starters anyway.

Will you have a guest video on your collection?

I got to show you my rush hour during morning ... Incredibly civilized for people not to be on my bicycle lane.

Just start an account at vimeo.com which it totally free. Then come here and post your link for everybody to enjoy. It's really easy.
