First chain change. Grinding noise?

First chain change. Grinding noise?
I changed my chain for the first time, I made sure I made the derailer verticle had it on the big ring in the front and small ring in the back. I pushed the pin in correctly and lubed it up. Does it just take time to break in the new chain, or did I do something terribly wrong?

Cassettes wear out too. Depending on a trillion variables, often a chain will wear with a cassette and when just one is replaced, it takes a while for the entire drivetrain to be smooth again. So your noisy drivetrain is probably normal if it's still shifting fine.

Is the chain properly routed through the RD? There's a little tab thingy below the upper jockey wheel that it's supposed to go behind, not in front of.
