First Day Of Commute

Did my first day on the commute 6miles round trip. Takes about 15mins one way because it is very hilly. Fun ride though. Bike runs great. Bags and rack add some weight but highly functional.

This is my bike in all its glory. Rides like a gem now that I got it tweaked. Will probably need a tuning not too far down the road with me getting used to riding again.

Rules for new commuters:

~Just do it... then just keep doing it
~Ride It Like You Stole It
~Keep The Rubber Side Down [This one is of critical importance!]
~When you start talking youself out of riding....just Shut Up and Ride
~Buy new goodies/bikes with the money you save
~Constantly show off sexy biker legs to wife/gf/bf/whatever
~It never gets easier, you just go faster[well at first it gets easier]
~Work..it's the ugly time between rides
~Objects in your mirror are stupider than they appear
~The unintelligible comments from passing cars are always compliments
~Sweat and snot[in winter] are sexier than you might think
~If 2 bikes are headed in the same direction they are racing
~Your new name is Fred [or Wilma]
~The response to "Get on the sidewalk!" is "Ride your freakin' bike!"
~Once you are completely soaked, you can't get any wetter.
~Don't worry Be Happy
~Perfect your shower time down to 4.25 minutes. You'll be doing it a lot.
~Yes, helmets are dorky, but you should still wear one.
~Laughing at JAMs makes them madder than giving them the finger.
~Don't ride through Garbage Juice..especially when cornering.
~Quickie Marts are the cycling oasis [Gatorade fits the bottle holder].
~When someone bails you out, you are obligated to pay it forward 2x
~Biker Tan... Set a new higher standard for Farmer Tan
~Bicycles, the other fun thing between your legs.

Congratulations on your first ride !

Thanks for all the kind words. Did another day of commuting on bike and got almost 8 miles in as I went shopping after work. The only thing I see myself getting very very soon is a Brooks B17.

First time I have seen that. It is great and 100% true! Really loved the mirror.

To the original poster. The first two weeks are the hardest. After that you will stop having wobbly legs when you get off the bike. That's the point where you will start racing the clock as entertainment. I have shaved a full 7 minutes off my first day of my 4.3 mile run. Hills I was dying on going 6mph I now run at 12mph. Where I was feeling good doing 12-15mph I now run 22-25mph.

Don't be so quick to down shift. Too low of gear is just as tiring as too high of gear but less forward progress in most cases. Stand up on that bad boy if you have too. That's how you get them legs that drives your lady crazy
