new tires!!!!!!!!
After about a year of not riding, i would like to get back into my daily commute. I know this might not be the best place to post, but bear with me. I am looking for an icredibly good tire, problem is i want a wider tire ( something lie 28-35 width ). The LBS has Bontrager select B inverted at $15 and michelin dynamic at about the same, but i am willing to spend more. So please help, looking for a 700c x 28-35 width slick tire. Thank you!

I have a mountain bike bike set up with Bontrager Select Inverts in the 26" by 1.5" size. They've been great so far on pavement and packed gravel, and provide adequate handling on wet roads. They've only seen a few hundred miles on them so far (I do most of my commuting on a different bike), but they're holding up and haven't gotten a puncture, though my local streets are pretty clean and I don't live in goathead country.
I believe they also come in a hardcase version.

To add to these, try the Schwalbe Marathon XR's. Same as the Plus but lighter. I just got them (35mm variety) on my commuter and they are amazingly tough and comfortable.
For both of you I would highly recommend the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. They're NOT cheap...and there's a reason for that. They're VERY good tires. 35.00 per tire in 700x25, 28, 32mm. 26"(mtb) in 1.50-2.25, I believe. Not sure if there's a 27" version. Just got two pair. One for my 'loaded' commuter and one for my singlespeed. 700x28, 25mm, respectively. For a few years now I've ridden on Nu-Teck airless for a flat-free existance. Got tired of the grind and was forced to go to my wife's bike as a commuter around the same time(long story). She has 32mm Nashbar 'touring' tires. The loaded commute was like being able to breathe again, so I swallowed my pride, opened up my wallet and purchased the 'general BF consensus' best commuting tire available. Schwalbe Marathon Plus. Phenomenal tire. I've got 4 'commuter ready' bikes and am replacing the Nu-Tecks one set at a time as I can afford. You wont be sorry...2500 miles from now.

If your bike has a horrible ride, ( mine did ) consider Schwalbe Big Apples. You do pay a small penalty for the extra width, but it's very small, and the comfort is very noticeable. I've done about 3,000 kms now, little wear, no punctures, despite riding thru glass debris several times. Sold as a road tire ( duh! ) but does surprisingly well off road ( grassy tracks and the like ) even in the wet. Schwalbe seem to know how to build some remarkable tires.

If you want puncture resistance then get the Conti Ultra Gator Skin. Lots of rave reviews and they still roll like they come with built in drive engines.
I'm also running Panaracer T Serv puncture resistant tires on one of my commuters and again these roll well. I'm running the 25mm size but they come in 28, 32 and 35 mm sizes. The wider ones get pretty heavy though. I like them but the Conti Ultra Sports roll just a tiny little bit more easily. I can only tell because I run all the bikes with these over the same path on my commute. The actual difference is totally negligable.
The point is you don't NEED to spend lots of money on tires. There's some incredable options depending on if you feel the need for puncture resistant or not.

If you want speed,WTB Slickasauruses in 1.5" or Conti Sport Contacts in 1.6". Comfort,Schwalbe Big Apples or Marathon Supremes in 2". The Supremes are way lighter, but cost alot more(but are worth it IMHO). If you want a year round tire that rolls decent and can do snow,Serfas Drifters in either 1.5 or 2".

In your original post you said you wanted an incredibly good tire. You've already heard Schwalbe in this thread a number of times and for good reason; they are incredibly good tires.
Given that they'll be among the most flat resistant tires (something that is pretty nice to have on your side during a commute) you can find and also long wearing, they are quite a bargain.
You can get any number of Schwalbe semi-slicks for around $30 each. Here's one Source for you to consider, and Another.

It happens that most of my racing was done on Contis because back then (80s & 90s), they had some of the best wear and flat resistance traits available in racing tires, and they held higher pressures in many cases.
Why are *you* so concerned with slick, sticky tires? The answers will likely help you get more focused advice.

I like my Specialized Nimbus in 700 x 28c; ride well and good flat protection

I am going to +1 the Marathon XR suggestion. My XR's came in a few weeks ago and I love them. I went with 26 x 1.6. They are for my 26" ride as I already mentioned I use the Boroughs on my 700c wheels.
