My fastest commute ever-

Going home last night I averaged (by the computer) 19.0 MPH over 14.85 Mi. Thats a personal best for me.

To be fair, I have the computer set to stop recording at 0.5 MPH so the time at lights is not included.

It's a pace of 3:09/mile so my new goal is 3:00 flat. Wish me luck

Nice. Flat? My commute is at 15 mi. almost dead on, but there's no way in hell I could average 19 mph with the hills and MUP.

How do you find that info for local elevations? I know my office is higher than my home, but haven't had any luck finding a topographic map or any other info.

My commute on the old bike took 60 min to work and 45 min coming home. I'm curious how big an elevation change I'm riding through.

(New bike took me 49 min to get to work. Can't wait to see how fast I get home. )

Hmmm, the guy out of Yardville has me wondering what he thinks flat is? Almost anything south of Rt 195 is considered flat. Also almost anything along the shore is flat (though my friend has a brutal coastal ride with every hill he can find and that really hurts).

When I want to figure out the elevation of my route I go to https://www.bikely.com/ and build my routes. I have a bunch up there (https://www.bikely.com/listpaths/by/ncherry all for NJ (mostly the southern half).

You caught me, at least I came clean with elevation numbers. Over the years I am moving my way south from the Morristown area, so thats my reference for hills. I forget about South jersey and the shore. I just never ride there. Ever try the climbs out of Lambertville?

My last four commutes have all been between 19.1 and 19.7 mph average. It really feels great cruising along at those speeds. If I wasn't carrying a backpack and pushed it a little harder I don't see 20-21 mph average being out of the question.

Commute is 16.25mi each way with some medium rolling hills - one hundred footer, and a few 50'+ hills.

I'm with the OP. Last night I had an exceedingly rare tailwind on the homeward leg. I forgot to start my computer, but I know what time I got off the train and what time I rolled into the garage, 10.1 miles later.

The night before, I took two minutes off my average. Last night, I was 6 minutes off the previous night's time.

Dang. If I could get that kind of speed it would be really nice. That is faster then I averaged on the two time trials I did this year.
I was excited to hit 16.55 avg yesterday coming in without a tailwind, usually I need a big tailwind for that kind of speed.

Wow you soar. You manage to work in between those rides? My 16.5 mile commute is draining me, I can barely manage 15mph avg! Gratz dude! Keep it up!

Wow, that is great. I busted my butt to get 17.9 last night. Took the MAX for part of my ride so the commute was only about 16 miles. Like others in this thread, I got a rare tail wind I believe. Not sure, but can't explain why I was as fast as I was. My commute is flat as a pancake.

I did Lamberville a few years ago those are nasty. I'm currently working on routes out of Cranbury out to Lambertville and Frenchtown those are for next year.

If you ever get a ride down give it a try. I like it but I like riding throughout the state. There are a lot of places to ride.
