Yes, I'm sure that happens. To clarify myself, I did not mean that no commuters need to carry underwear, only that it is not always necessary to carry underwear in order to be a commuter. In fact, it probably is the norm to not carry underwear as a commuter.

Every time I ride my bike in I'm always hoping for something to happen on the way home. Once I had a construction truck stop all the cars heading in one direction for a few minutes so he could turn around (with a trailer) well the cars were quickly backing up and here was happy me zooming right to the front, hopping on the sidewalk to go around the truck and on my merry way as the drivers were still stewing. Alas this does not happen often enough

-you have choosen to ride your bike to work even though you have broken bones (smashed big toe for me)

-you forget you have your reflective vest on at work and roam the halls in all your green/reflective splender

-you do not have enough elbow room at your desk b/c you insist your bike comes upstairs with you, mostly because it takes to long to remove all the "stealables" (lights, paniers, water bottle...) if you park it outside

-you check out others reflective gear

-you chide the "nonlighted"

-you look forward to a flat on the road, you see it as a opportunity to set a new personal time record for changing a flat

I went for tech training in Minneapolis and it was similar to torture watching one of the most heavily biked communities and not biking. I craiglisted a vintage raleigh for a hundred bones and rode the fool out of it. Everyone in my class thought I was nuts. I gave it to the hotel maid when I left; hopefully she is enjoying it.

- you ride soo much that eventually that thing next to a bridge isn't just a large lizard, it's an alligator, and it just hsst at you, so you jet out at like 50 mph!

im there right now actually, im 5 lbs heavier than when i would drive in everyday (granted i usually went mountain biking after though) I guess i use the excuse that im riding 40 miles a day to justify to myself i can eat whatever i want.
