Recommend a replacement wheelset for my Specialized Sirrus Comp?
Hello,
I do not know much about bike components, but I believe my Specialized Sirrus Comp (2007) could use an improved wheelset. The wheel is already crooked after just 100kms of light riding, and I imagine this is attributable to the Taiwanese rims and Specialized in-house (no name) hubs.
In case this is relevant, the bike came with 700c x 28 size tires but these were swapped out for 700c x 32. I was wondering - given that this is a hybrid bike used 80% for city riding and 20% for light trail riding - which wheelset might you guys recommend as a reasonably-priced replacement for what I currently have?
The bike has a Shimano 9-speed STI system.

When you say crooked, do you mean out of true?
Often machine made wheels are not properly tensioned and get out of true rather easily. I'd suggest trueing the wheel first. If you don't know how to do that, take your bike to your LBS. Here in chicago wheel truing goes for about $15 per wheel. Surely beats spending $200 or more for a new wheelset.

Take it back to the shop and have the wheels trued. If they say one of the wheels is toast, ask them for a warranty or a deal on a replacement.

It's got 24 spoke front and 28 spoke rear wheels per the spec sheet. I don't know if I'd be comfortable with that I'd much rather see 36 or at least 32 spoke wheels on my commuter. But then again I'm not 5'5" and 123 lbs. either. Get the wheels trued and retensioned, preferably under warranty, and you might see about investing in a second set of heavier duty wheels unless you're very light and don't plan on carrying much stuff and have mostly immaculate roads to contend with.

I purchased the bike used, so having the wheels trued under warranty won't fly. It will cost at least $30.
I figured I'd rather spend another $100-$175 to get a set of wheels that is in every way superior to what came with the Sirrus.
I weigh 165lbs and am 5"11.
Any further insight appreciated!

$30 v. $175? which do you choose?
In my LBS double wall rims start at approx $70, so I am not sure where you get $100 for a set of wheels better than the one on the sirrus?
Now, if you really want to spend the money go ahead, but I don't think that is very wise
