What about getting a carbon fork? I know steel is real, but that fork must weight a ton!

There is a guy here in Austin I've see riding one of these. I think it's great.

On a historical note, these were the first racing bikes. Before geared bikes, the only way to go faster was with bigger wheels. I understand penny farthing races reached speeds of 25-30 mph.

Solid tire. There is a piece of 12 gauge wire that runs through it that is pulled taught with a machine, then the last bit of rubber is overlaid and glued together.

Just: I live in DC, I commute from near 5th and R NW to 11th and H NW on it.

There are 2 or 3 people that sell the rubber with and without wire preinstalled.
