Very very cool
So, after getting to work this morning and entering my time in my log, I go back out to my bike to put the computer back on.
And what'dya know, another bicycle is parked about 5 feet from mine!!!!
Gave me goosebumps!
The lady handing out our paystubs said I must have inspired somebody!

Sweet.
There are three guys here at my office who have been telling me for two years that they are going to start riding their bikes to work. I've even offered to swing by and ride in with them, but they can't seem to get motivated.

After 5 years of riding, and only one or two people who only show up on their bikes 2 or 3 times a summer, there's a guy at work who asked me many questions in the last month about clothing and lighting and stuff, and he's started showing up several times a week and parking next to me. Cool!

Cool trend, isn't it? When I started riding to work 3 years ago there was maybe one other bike parked at my building and not everyday. This summer, the building owner had to install additional racks because there wasn't enough room for all the bikes. The larger capacity still fills up on nice days.
I think we might be on to something here . . .

Yesterday somebody from work rode in with me for the first time. He drove his car to a bike path near my place. Then we rode our bikes for the 28 km to work. The sun was shining, temp about 53F and very little wind. He was really tired when he got back to his car in the evening, but I think he was satisfied with his achievement.

Cycling is way up at my workplace. Last year, there were maybe two or three bikes the rack on any given day. This year, it's more like 8 to 12.

So, after getting to work this morning, I went downstairs to get a tasty beverage, and when I got back to my cube I found my cubemate's bike leaning against mine...just like it is every day.
I think it's always been pretty popular in densely-populated areas like Boston, but it's probably getting more so as public transit becomes ever more obnoxiously crowded and dysfunctional.

A guy that works at the Friend of the Court got his cool Live Strong bike ripped off. I don't know if he ever got it back. I heard he now brings his bike inside. I park out back at the courthouse since some kids messed with my bike out front earlier this summer.
There's only one other bike I see regularly on the rack: Somebody's yellow Varsity or Continental with steel rims and upside-down handlebars. That's the only other regular that I know of. Too bad.

Our building downtown had to install another bike rack this summer because of the increase in bikes. Besides the existing two racks, there were bikes tied to just about everything on all sides of the building. The facilities person requesting the rack sent pictures from one day, and it was pretty impressive to see all the bikes everywhere.
Bonus - the new rack (which only two other people have found) is under an overhang, so the bike stays dry in wet weather. Of course, when the weather is bad, there's only about two of us that park in the front of the building - can't vouch for the folks who park at the railings by the side doors, since I get here way earlier than they do.
Our little division is only in this building temporarily because of problems in our other building. Every so often I have to go over to the other building to pick up some files - by bike, of course! The last time I went, the one crappy toaster-style rack they have was filled with bikes. Quite a change before, when there was rarely a bike there. When we were located there, I used to just walk to work. Our garage door went off its tracks every time it would open, so I couldn't justify riding the bike in with the hassle of the door - and didn't need my neighbors to hear me cursing loudly that early in the morning. We've since gotten a new door, so I'll be riding to work when we move back to the old building. It might be time to start lobbying for more bike parking over there.

Yup. I used to like our mass transit. Now it is insanely crowded and they keep cutting service. Consequently, I am less than thrilled with them. I have found that the slightly shorter version of my commute is much easier to handle and plan on avoiding mass transit for all but the most hazardous days.

There are dozens of bikes parked around my office building everyday. We have two of our own racks, and the building is surrounded by atleast 20 city bike posts. Lately there have been so many cyclists that people have been locking their bikes to our fire exist stairs.
