Car-free for one week (kind of)

So I worked six days this week- every day except Sunday- and rode my bike each day. The only time I took the car out was to take some old carpet padding to the dump and to pick up another bicycle that I bought. The rest of the time I rode my bike everywhere- commuting 6 days, running errands, etc. In fact, when I ran errands I took the bike I picked up this week- a 1966 Raleigh Tourist. The rest of the time I was on my Nishiki hybrid.

Always good to try something new. I'm car lite here; the car gets 12mpg, but I've been on the same tank since the start of August. Going to have to hit up a gas station some time next week.

Yeah, I just refilled my car for the first time in over a month. Rode to work when I was here in town (mostly), and had a two-week business trip during which I was technically carpooling since I was traveling with someone else and we only had one rental car. I bought my car almost exactly 3 years ago. Year 1 I put almost 20,000 miles on it; Year 2 I drove it 16,000 miles; Year three I only put 8,000 miles on it. There are some other factors involved, but my bike commuting has put a dent in the number of miles I put on it.

Further in the interest of "car-free", I did use the car for some grocery shopping (Costco quantities are never easy to carry on a bike, and my bike isn't maxed at for carrying stuff... yet), but I did ride the bike to a Habitat for Humanity build, and to go to a bar about 7 miles from my house to watch the Buffalo Bills play (I'm from Buffalo originally). I gotta do all I can to ride off those chicken wings!
