couple of years back, one of the British cooking shows did a bit on cooking in the dishwasher. Wrapped everything in foil and claimed it was good way to cook with moist heat ...

Just the title of this thread made me laugh!

Maybe I'm overly squeamish, but I don't like the idea of putting anything I wouldn't want on my dishes (dog urine, grease from car parts) in my dishwasher. My husband sneaks our dog/cat dishes into our dishwasher once in a while and I almost gag.

As an aside, I knew somebody who had a collection of baseball caps and always wore one and he cleaned them periodically in the top rack of his dishwasher.

I worked in electronics manufacturing and we used to clean circuit boards in a dishwasher. That's a good idea though, probably gets rid of the sweat odour too, not just dog urine.

I put a rifle in the dishwasher once. Came out very clean. The wife put an end to that.

I have cleaned trashcans in a dishwasher. I did run it empty afterwards to sanitize it a bit.

Back when keyboards cost $70-80 a pop, I put one in that had a Diet Coke spilled on it. Let it dry out for 24 hours, and worked like a charm for 2 years after that.

Now, keyboards are so cheap, I just swap them out every so often.

But you can still put a keyboard in the dishwasher...the key is to let it air dry at least 2 days or you will short it out when you plug it in. I've done this s couple time with the kids PC, man they can gunk up a keyboard.

If a dog pee'd in my helmet i'd drop the 40 bux for a new one. Once something has been pissed on it is forever changed.

I had a friend in college who was living in university housing. He cleaned the oil pan of his MG in the dishwasher. Pan came out clean, but dishwasher had to be replaced.

I like cleaning stuff in the dishwasher, it's so handy. Good for hats, plastic kids' toys, dog collars, I heard you could also use it for cleaning car parts (but I don't think I'm going to try that one).
How about dentures? Yes... my grandmother runs hers through occasionally.

I saw a dishwasher commercial the other day where neighborhood kids were putting their bikes in it. They came out nice and clean also. :-)

After you do this put it in with a bunch of white rice (uncooked) the rice will absorb all of the moisture. You can do this with any electronics that gets wet. (or almost)

I've heard of people using the dishwasher to get cosmoline out of a stock and also because getting the stock wet and then heating will remove nicks and dings.

I don;t want to derail the thread though. I now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

There's a glove washing thread over at SS/FG...

An old friend had a poodle that pissed on his Ampeg flip top bass amp 20 + years ago. The stain is still there though both dog and owner are no longer.

Another old friend used to chuck ham radio chassis in to his pool after he stripped off the caps and tubes. He baked them in the oven afterwards. I bought some Ampex tube electronics from him, they looked better than new.

+1 on KB cleaning...

Something is terribly wrong with this picture. That's it, the chain is not in the proper position for photographing (the smallest cog). Don't you feel terrible about this outrageous faux pas? Bad boy, bad!
