newbie question

hey guys, i've been lurking for a few weeks trying to read as much as possible. i'm looking for a bike that i can commute on, do some road training on, and also some light trail riding once in a while. i figured that a cyclocross bike would be perfect for this. here is my question, i'm considering 3 different options at this point...

04 redline conquest disc R brand new

02 or 03 cannondale xr 800 - 105 shifters, 9 speed, 600 rear der., Mavic Speed City wheels

01 diamondback podium - disc brakes with the hand levers. Front is Schimano 105; rear derail is Ultegra and the hubs are XT. And the rims -- Salsa Del Gados -- Stem and seatpost both Salsa as well.

if i could get them all for about the same price...which would be the best value?

thanks!

tyler

btw, i'm about 6'1" 210 lbs.

Kona Jake, Surly Crosscheck and Soma Doublecross seem to get all the publicity here.

Have you considered asking in the cyclocross forum?

Well, you gave your dimensions, but none for any of the bikes.

i was asking more about the components, ie which bike would be a better VALUE...not necessarily, which will fit me the best...considering they're all the same size, i'm hardly an experienced rider to notice the difference between a frame that dimensions that a few cm's different than the others

The most critical dimension for fit is the length of the top tube.

Also check for the location of threaded eyelets for rack(r) and fenders(f/r). You really need these eyelets for a commuter even if you chose not to use them right now.
Be aware that std disc mount location can interfere with rack/fender fitting even if you have the eyelets. Ideally you want a frame with the disc mount on the seatstay.
