2009 Jamis Commuter 4
I was just browsing the new 2009 Jamis catalog (pdf is here) and I think they've done a damn good job with this model. Alfine 8 w/double chainrings, disc brakes, dyno hub, rack, fenders. Me likey. If only it was steel.
I do think the sprung saddle on a suspension seatpost is a bit "belt and suspenders" though

I have a 2007 Commuter 3 with a regular non-red band Shimano 8 spd hub, got it to use as my bad weather & winter ride- it has been suprisingly effective. The hub did not receive the most positive press, which I cannot confirm- while I only have a few hundred km on it, mine has been great. Shifts fine, is fairly quiet and been working well thru a lot of rural grime, sand and salt. One improvement to the Commuter 3, would be stronger brakes; which the 4 seems to have done- probably the 4 price will be a lot higher. Jamis Commuter 2 (1x8 gearing) or 3 ( IGH) are great values.

Share the road.
That frame seems a little stubby, and I like braze on's on the front fork in case I want to mount a frack. Also, bike companies seem to think commuters want to go slow or casually peddle every where.

From what I've seen, the new 4.0 looks like a winner!
