Help me find a specific new bike...
Ok, so as far as specific goes, I'm not looking for a particular brand or model, I'm looking for a style...
What I want, is an English 3 speed that's been updated. 3-8 geared IGH, STRAIGHT top tube, and sloping handlebars. Preferably under $700. Ideally, I'd love something with the features of the Electra Classic 3 or Royal 8, but the royal is too expensive, and the classic doesn't have hand-brakes, just a coaster. I'm not commuting 20 miles/day on a coaster. Plus, their top tube slopes.
So, any ideas?

Coffee it is. Don't necessarily care if it has a coaster brake, I just want the assurance of two wheeled hand brakes (whether disc or rim). I remember my coaster brake BMX bikes always sliding around and burning up the brake. No thanks.
And actually, I looked at the cambridge, and love it. Just wish I could afford that price.

There's Pashley, amongst others, that make "traditional" bikes - that is, if you absolutely have to go that route

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

My answer seems to be being ignored, but I didn't mean it in any sarcastic sort of way. There are plenty of old three speeds out there, and with a new set of wheels using alloy rims, they would seem to be exactly what you want. I thought it was a helpful answer, honestly.

Your answer didn't seem sarcastic at all. It seemed to me that buying an old 3-speed was a good way to go, too, until I looked at a couple - a Raleigh and a Schwinn. To get the comfort of a frame that fits, the quality of a Shimano Nexus or similar hub shifter, better wheels than the originals, wider handlebars and a new seat, I would have had to change almost everything about those bikes, or do a restoration and ride them as original. I want a bike "in the style of" the old 3-speeds, but having looked at them, I want modern parts. To me, it came down to buying a Fuji Cambridge and paying full price because they are so new no one seems to have one, or getting an old touring frame and building it into what I want. I'm now looking for a frame. Gary
