This just came up on Digg as I was poking through it this morning. Looks interesting!

I like the full-wheel rotor as opposed to dyno-hubs... would actually allow you to dynohub the front and also generate from the back.

I remember seeing a Discovery channel show a while ago talking about the backpack ones. With the power requirements of an LED it makes sense you could add one like it onto a bike.

Assuming it works decently, it does have an advantge over a dynohub.
Dynohubs use energy which otherwise could be put towards making you go faster. This seat post shock absorber is using energy that otherwise would be spent whacking you in the arse. Which is totally wasted...unless you're into that sort of thing.

You know, I was thinking. If this concept was re-engineered a little, one could really downsize that generator and build a 'never need to replace the batteries' version of Swobo Dixon Seat Post... kind of the same benefits of Reelights, but simpler to install.

All right mr engineer smart guy, 'splain to me exactly why I fail.
Is the energy absorbed by your bum not wasted? It bounces you out of the saddle. It does not provide forward motion, that I'm aware of.
Perhaps I do fail at this. If someone can come up with a legitimate explanation rather than a wisecrack, I would love to hear it.
