4000?

I brought my odometer into the house last night to show the wife that it was at 3992. (I'm sure you can guess where this is going). Two miles in on my 12.5 commute I realize that I left it on the table.:o Too late to go back, so I've finished 4000 for the year, but I have nothing to show.

The question is should I advance it when I get home to 4017 or suck it up and celebrate tomorrow?

Do it tomorrow, but bring a bottle of champagne with you. When you hit the mark, pop the cork and spray it all over like a lunatic. Finish off the bottle via chugging, and continue on your way.

I advance it if it falls behind for some reason, but since I never take it off the bike it's only even been an issue when I put my front wheel on backwards. That no longer happens either since I have disc brakes up there now.

My generator hub solved the 'backwards wheel' issue real quick.

I'd advance it manually when I got home, but that's just how I do things. I only have a computer mount on one of my bikes, so if I take my fixed gear out for a serious ride, then I make sure to manually add in the miles on my computer.

you know, this is what i love about bicycle culture. no one would ever celebrate 4000 miles of driving.

Tell the wife that after that trauma, it would be appropriate if she, uh, "celebrated" you.

Yeah, If you can - watch the rollover (I like those events ;)) but advance it to the correct number once you're home and then celebrate! :)

Also, congrats - I passed 4500 miles on my Rob Roy just this week, woo! :D
