Crappy Morning!

On the bright side the weather is really nice (for November in Minnesota)!

On my ride in to work this morning I got a double flat and lost my rear-view mirror. Got a rear flat at one of the "usual suspect" spots along my commute route for road debris/flatting. Stopped, fixed it, went to go on my way. Oh, hey! front flat too! Lucky f#&king me! Nothing in either of the tires so I assume I ran over something stationary and hit it with both wheels. So anyway, I fixed the front flat a full 30 feet further down the road from where I fixed the rear one. Went on my way again and when I went to take my next left I notice that my mirror is missing (the one that fits on the visor of a Bell Metro). Are you kidding me??? F#&K!!! Must've fallen off while I was fixing the flats? Went back to find it. Couldn't find it. F#&k it.

To add to my whine, I decided to go on just a ride for no reason last night because the weather was so nice and I was feeling lethargic. Something I haven't done in awhile. Hadn't had a flat all year up until then and I flatted about 5 miles into my ride last night too. So I've had three flats in the past twelve hours. I guess I had to pay my dues eventually.

Poor, poor f#&king me!

Had a similar experience a couple months ago. Went 1800 miles without a flat and at the end of a 3 day tour, got a flat. That week going to work had 3 flats in 4 days, all at the same spot in the road (gravel) I found my mirror that fell off though and found my nose guard on my sunglasses too!

Maybe... The tires that I'm running on my commuter right now (700 X 35 Avocet FasGrip Duro) don't have much in the way of puncture protection in that they're not belted or anything. I had them lying around when I wore out my last pair so I threw 'em on. But they don't have all that many miles on them.

I wasn't even riding my commuter last night. I was riding one of my "other" bikes, and that one is wearing 700 X 38 Panaracer Pasela Tourguards (which are belted).

So I think it had more to do with unfortunate circumstance than tire choice. Although it certainly couldn't hurt to run tires that are more puncture resistant on my commuter!

Must be going around - I had my first flat in two months this morning. It was a doozy too! Big old shard of glass cut my tire. I have some Forte tires I got from Performance for $7 a piece. They've been pretty tough and the rear has a 1/4" cut right now and no bulging......

It's simply luck, ( the bad kind)

But, the good luck is the with weather we've had the last couple days. Wow, I'd be ok with fixing flats, anything to stay outside longer!

It's 74 right now, by Friday they're saying a high of 34 and snow showers....... oof

I ran over something metal on my way in to work a couple weeks ago... put a 2" gash through my rear tire and tube.

Bought a new tire and tube... a week later the tire sidewall (the week old tire!) gives out with a BANG!

Performance swapped the tire and tube... the next day the tube fails w/ no puncture or anything. Patch it and ride it.

A week later I get a flat in the front tire... Put a brand new tube (from Performance, too) on the front. 3 days later it fails in the EXACT SAME PLACE as the other tube...

Replace the tube and ride off... 10 minutes later I've got another flat on the back... the patch I'd put on failed. (It's REALLY hard to patch a Slime tube!)

Took both tubes back to Performance today and they replaced both of them as defective.

Hopefully that's the end of my stretch of flats....

Morning was great. Evening? Not so much.

Front tire was flat last Wed morning, so I swapped out the front wheel from my road bike. I finally patch the flat Sunday night and the tire holds full pressure overnight. The ride in was quite nice, in the low 40's.

Pulling out of work tonight, I see the tire is quite low. So I change the tube and somehow manage to snap the presta valve clean off. It may have been defective (probably not), it may be caused by the way I was trying to pump against the top of my foot in order to prevent this very thing from happening.

So, I had to periodically stop to reinflate my gimpy old tube all the way home. The patch kit was at home.

While nothing has happened to my tires...yet (i still have to ride home) I did walk outside to find my eye protection/goggles right behind my wife's rear tire.
