I Wet My Pants... Well Not Really :p

Looking for non sticking pants...

So now it's winter and regardless if it's Snow, ICE, or Rain, I'm wearing the waterproof overlay on top of my pants.

That's great, or so you'll think.

Yeah it does keeps me dry from the nasty wet and sticky stuff from the road, but... it doesn't protect it against myself.

I'm a "heavy sweater" that sounds weird but technically speaking that's accurate.
So the point is I'm one of those that sweat like a waterfall when riding a bike, or doing any sort of activities.

And... that's the problem, when it's really freezing outside, it's not as bad, since the cold keeps my sweat frozen for the most part, until.... i enter into a shop or something, like a coffee shop, or subway for example; it starts to thaw, and then my pants gets totally soaked in sweat.

Then if i continue to ride after the quick stop, the pants gets all sticky and makes pedalling really really annoying.

Can some one recommenced some Anti Sticking pants, or stuff that i can wear underneath to keep the pants from sticking to me?

but at the same time, the new layer should not stick to the body, at least not in a way that impedes a natural movement for pedalling.

Cheers

I realized over the weekend when wearing my rain/wind jacket that some of that moisture is condensation. You're developing a nice warm micro-climate inside your clothes and it's cold on the outside. So I don't think you even have to be sweaty; there's just some natural moisture in there.

If you're sweating, you're over dressed. Take off a layer. It was -8C today and I commuted with only a tshirt and underwear under my waterproof jacket and pants.

My experience has been that anything advertising as waterproof is a lie. And the whole "waterproof + breathable" means "lets water right through unimpeded".

I just bought these, custom made for $95. They are the best tights/pants I've ever tried. They shed water like a duck in light rain (low 40s F) and were incredibly comfortable on my first commute. Sealed pockets on the thighs held a cell phone and work badge. The insides were warm and soft - AND - breathed very nicely. I too have a problem with soaking sweat - and that did not happen. The pants were also roomy enough but not baggy. They were long enough to fit over top of my riding boots. Lou can make them from different types and thicknesses of fabric.

That seems a touch extreme... for me the morning commute was -9C. I had on bib-shorts, winter tights, and "rain-legs" to keep the wind off the tender bits. Up top, winter jersey with arm warmers underneath and light cycling vest over all that. Also, balaclava and goggles, plus winter gloves, wool socks, and MEC rain booties (again to keep the wind off).

I was simultaneously hot enough to sweat, and had fingers and toes that were going numb 60% of the way through my 45 minute ride. I was not "hot", but I was sweating. (I was actually a bit chilly, especially my arms, cheeks, lips, and my head was quite "cool".)

While I don't ride my typical 30+ km/h in this weather (not a fan of wind-chill, not to mention ice patches and cages with fogged windows) I don't exactly make it a Sunday ride either.

Maybe it's me, but I just don't see a ride where I don't sweat unless I completely avoid exertion... if it's -10, I'm cold, and I'm still sweating....

Here's a more detailed list of what I wore this morning:

*Balaclava
*MEC wrap around sunglasses with clear lenses
*Tshirt
*Showers Pass touring jacket
*Underwear
*Showers Pass rain pants
*MEC lobster gloves
*MEC Windstopper gloves as liners
*Running shoes & regular cotton socks

Aside from very numb toes, my 1 hour 15 minute ride was pretty comfortable. I arrived with my tshirt slighty damp from sweat, but not enough to contribute to wind chill. Both my jacket and pants are completely windproof and loose fitted, which make them warmer than tights despite the lack of layers.

My fixed gear bike and studded tires keep me working hard too.

One annoying thing was that the balaclava directed my breath into my sunglasses, which made the lenses fog up. I didn't wear the sunglasses on the way home and my eyeballs were fine. Also, I got quite a bit of condensation on the inside of my balaclava, which became quite irritating near the end of the ride.
