This is my other bike, I use it mostly to pull the loaded trailer home (my other bike, I can pull it up the hill home empty, but not so much full of kids, groceries, or both; today I'm expecting to be pulling the trailer home w/ 2 kids and 2 salmon; glad temp is back down to double digits).
This came out of a dumpster in Watertown MA. I paid to ship it to WA, added rack, fenders, new tires (1.5" inverted tread rather than 2" knobbies) and then I swapped out the old pedals for a set of spd/plain platforms I had lying around. And away it goes. You can't see in the crappy cell phone pic that the front fender stays are attached to the fork w/ copper wire. At some point I'd like to put in a whatever you call it fixed fork, no suspension, if only to get eyelets to finally screw the stays down to. I'd save the susp fork, just like I saved the 2" knobbies, but who knows if it would ever see daylight again. I'm stalled on replacing the fork just 'cause I don't know what I would find if I start taking it apart; threaded, threadless, all that stuff, I don't know anything about it. |

Frameset was bought in '89 but I'm guessing it was built in the late '70s or early '80s.
Ishiwata 022 steel throughout. Burnt metallic orange. Built for 27" wheels but I'm running 700C with "normal" reach Shimano Exage single pivots. Truvativ 4D 5-bolt 94mm BCD triple crank used as a double with 44x29 Ritchey chainrings. Deore LX front changer, 600 rear changer, with indexed bar-end shifters. 11-28 7-speed HG cassette. |
I finally got a new digicam so here is a picture of the Bomber, an old all-rigid Specialized Rock Hopper that I bought for $40 at a garage sale. Its first purpose was to pull the twins' trailer but I've started to use it as a grocery-hauler, errand runner, and occasional commuter. As the weather turns this fall, I'll probably slap some fenders on it and commute with it every day. The rack and panniers from REI triple the Bomber's monetary value.

By far this has been my biggest bang for the buck cycling related purchase, ever.

My race bike/commuter
Here's mine. It actually is a race bike, but I mainly use it for my daily commute, which is a 15 miles one way. Roads are exellent troughout, and I like to ride relatively fast, I usually do about 18-19 mph. I always have a small backpack with me with underwear, etc. I have a locker at work, so I usually don't carry much.

Thanks xB_Nutt. I can attest that I am not Hobby Talk Johnny Lightning Swifty. Just Swifty. Nice to meet you!:p |
Here's my occasional commuter/errand bike/tool around town/grocery getter...
Uncle Duke is a 1980ish Fuji S12-S that I got on eBay and brought back to life. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...e/DSCF2121.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...uke/th_TOV.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...h_DSCF2169.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...h_DSCF2177.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...h_DSCF2172.jpg |

Swank ride! Beautiful looking bike. --A |
Here's my Trek 7.3 FX with Freddy Fenders, and Trek Interchange rack and bag. It's been a slow build because money is not being nice to me right now, but soon I'll have some lights on here and some waterbottles after I figure out how I want to do the battery for the lights. Maybe some bar ends or trekking bars eventually too. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pic. My regular camera's battery was dead and I didn't feel like finding the charger and waiting a day or so to charge.
