You know, now that you mentioned it I guess so. I never gave the single white spoke much thought. I wondered at first what was up with it but then was like meh...

So I've been mulling over a 27.5 wheel swap on my cross bike for awhile. I can mostly think of pros and only maybe one con from this swap (tire/tube availability). But the lower BB, ability to run wider/knobbier tires all add up to a lot if I want to actually ride off road. I *really* notice the height of this bike, pair that with skinny, tall 700s and I have never had off road confidence. Even with thinner 650b tires(40-45mm) on the swap I can only think of benefits as I have come to grips with how awesome a nice, light, voluminous tire is. Much better high speed handling, more comfort, etc... Anyways, I threw a 27.5x1.95 tire/wheel on the front from a new bike sitting at the shop just to visualize the thought today. Didn't have time to get both in and ride or anything.

My very rough measurements saw .5"-.75" total height difference in these two tire/wheel choices. 6+mm aint a shabby difference in BB height. I really think it would dial this thing in for my needs.

Now I really want it. lol. (different tires though)

Compare to the 700x35 Jack Brown on the back. The front tire makes it look like a silly road bike tire.

Here's a shot this morning of a fellow commuter here at work (or rather, their faithful steed):

Which reminds me of this:

Except worse by about an order of magnitude in terms of impact to others.

Now, this type of thing is never justified, but at least with a Ferrari, a Cervelo, etc., I understand the motivation. This is just confusing.

Put some new "clothes" on my crosscheck. Before, with 4 distinct shades of "lime" green:

Now with 1 (or 2, depending on your eye) shades of red:

This time I routed the shift cables through the opposite-side cable stops to remove one housing crossing in front. Now they cross under the downtube, and it's fine -- the rear cable just barely grazes the downtube, no added friction, and I'm not worried about wearing away paint.

Thats the weirdest shifter ive ever seen, is that a homebrew friction "brifter"

I have a vintage bike that id love to convert to something like that

Thanks for asking! It's from Retroshift, which changed their name to Gevenalle (dutch for I think "give it all"). It was designed for cyclocross, it's lighter, cheaper, and more durable/realiable than dura-ace brifters. It should work great with a vintage bike. Here's my review

Damage is not too serious; doc didn't even order a Xray/MRI.
Pain comes on and off. Took the bike on the train as a shortcut.

Today was my baker's dozen-th commute, really enjoying this setup. 850ish miles on this bike total this year

Nice bike! I just got a tcx and like it quite a bit. For me, the high bottom bracket is ideal, as i run long (200mm) cranks. I am surprised at the tire clearance though, I run 28c tires, and they just look wrong on the tcx frame, way too skinny. The 650b conversion should be fun... monster-cross. ;p

Damn. those are long cranks. And yeah, the bike makes perfect sense for an actual CX racing bike, or someone in your shoes. And to be honest, it's pretty damn good as is with my ~35mm, and lightweight, slicks. My boss has confirmed he would kill me if I picked up some 650b wheels, though. haha. I really can't see a negative besides tube/tire availability since I'd probably want to run 38-42mm street tires. And something like 50mm trail tires.

Not in commuter mode, as I was picking up veggies from the farm, but you get the gist. No trailer for most commutes.

That motorized attachment on the left side looks like it would be very helpful for large hills or large loads, but does it impede steering at all?
