I'm pretty happy with my setup I have going now. Planet bike cascadia touring fenders, older niterider headlight, planet bike superflash turbo, planet bike eco rack with reflective tape on it. Shimano SPD pedals. Gatorskins 25mm. Specialized saddle.

Because it's got those ridiculous huge tires on it, and it weighs about 30 pounds now! Really, its a fine bike, except for the really, really terrible Tektro Novela disc brakes.

A few weeks ago I got this Nashbar Steel Cyclocross. Previously I was commuting on a 1996ish Diamondback mountain bike. My old mtb is aluminum so the new ride is more comfortable and faster.

So much beauty and practicality in the last few pages.

Here's a pic of my... well, practical 2001 Giant Boulder in full-on commuting glory.

Picked this up off CL today...was kind of an impulse buy, but I'm sick of commuting on my poor-fitting hybrid and my new commuter CX bike still hasn't come in yet (thanks Bianchi...). So I'll commute on this for the next couple weeks. I already put my SPD pedal on, adjusted the seat and bars, and took off the extra bottle cage. For a CL bike, this thing is in great shape and super smooth compared to my Jamis. Once my CX bike comes in, I plan to use it as my weekend workout bike.

Sweet pickup matt. That is one classic looking caad. I'd throw some rival or 105 on there and be good to go.

Overall what do you think of the PDX, and how much does it weigh stock? I'm considering a PDX along with a 9th District, 7.3 FX or 1.1 to be my new commuter in a few months. My 7200 is just way too heavy when i am carrying stuff.

I've been eyeing one of these as my introduction to the cyclocross world, overall how do you like it? How much does it weigh stock? I'm also considering a single speed CX bike, maybe something like the Raleigh Furley...

I like the PDX, although I think i'd go with something different now that I am a bit more familiar with the bike market. My biggest problem with it is the Tektro Novela disc brakes, they're incredibly noisy and not powerful at all. Stock i'd say its around 24 or 25 pounds, so it's not exactly light. The rear derailleur is also not the greatest.

Of your choices i'd probably go with the either the 9th District or the 7.3fx, leaning a bit towards the district. I like the idea of a simpler drivetrain, although for your money the 7.3 is probably a better value.

Although I might lean towards something like the Nashbar Steel Cyclocross bike if I was really trying to save my pennies and wanted a good all-rounder.

It's my first non-mtb so I have limited basis of comparison but I love it. It's smoother riding than my mtb (AL frame) which surprised me. I really have no complaints. It's 24.5 lbs according to the weigh-myself-holding-the-bike technique so it isn't super light. Supposedly the wheels are heavy so upgrading those could shed some weight if that's a concern. Being 7 lbs lighter than my old mtb, it seems light to me!

Finally fixed the brake boss on the front fork so I could finish the build and adjustment to the touring/commuter bike. (I work from home so I don't do TOO much commuting) Here is my 06' Giant FCR3 dropbar conversion rebuilt with 105/SL Compact Crank/TRP Euro X Brakes sans the cages and racks.
