Yeah I was hoping to put in some conti speed rides (42c but actually 38c measured) and they were nowhere near close to fitting. apparently the frame on Bike Island is not exactly the same as the BD one. I probably should have asked first but when they're labeled as the same thing I just assumed...

Here is my all purpose bike. 2000 Specialized M2 Pro Stumpjumper. Originally owned by a serious XC rider who was two inches shorter than me. So I had to raise the stem (adjustable) and used a trekking bar. I have two sets of wheels: one with mountain tires and the other (pictured) with Specialized Fatboy 26x1.25 slicks. It is an incredibly light and fast bike. I actually added a little weight to it because I replaced the flat carbon handlebar with the trekking bar and added a rear seatstay Greenfield kickstand.
I will add a seatpost rear rack. The one I have won't fir the 30.9 mm seatpost so I have one on order.
In the summer, I use this mostly to go to the tennis courts. A couple bottles of water on the bike and a backpack for the rackets, balls, etc. I actually used tennis grips to tape the handlebar.

That looks pretty nice. I've always wondered what using a trekking bar is like.

I bought the Fantom CX used and the guy that owned it prior said when he ordered it from bikesdirect and that they messed up and sent it without decals. Looks a little plain to me but eh whatever... The tires are 40c. I contacted bikesdirect and they said 42c width will fit on the fantom. However I personally think 40c is the real threshold because my tires BARLEY have enough clearance!

I wish I could find a bike shop that seemed to really understand bike commuting versus road riding or mountain biking. I think it is great that they have their niche that they are interested in but I really would like to know what size tires I can run on my current bike/ wheelset. I want a place to let me fiddle around without having to purchase tires that may or may not fit. I test road a Salsa Vaya (shop employees bike in Blacksburg, VA) and she was running 700 X38 and it felt as fast mine but nice and comfy considering I just road around the parking lot. She would have let me ride it for an hour the next day if I had wanted. <that is flat out awesome!
but all that to say I truly like my 700X 28 Michelin city tires they are fast on the road 15.8- 16 avg mph for a 11 mile one way commute most days. I just think I would like something in the winter.

A re-post from another sub-forum, but it is the only bike I own and I commute on it. So here goes nothing.
It's the latest rendition of my Felt QX75 (2009) hybrid. It used to be a flatbar (stock), then I convert to trekking bar, and now it's a dropbar hybrid. Some in the hybrid sub-forum might feel it is no longer appropriate there coz now it looks more like a road or CX bike. Well, it maybe time to move on. Really enjoying the dropbar, with more possible hand positions and more aggressive posture for faster rides.
Recent changes: Stronglight Impact Compact crankset (48/34T), Dura Ace 7700 rear derailleur and brifters, Ultegra 6500 cassette, FSA Vero Compact drop bar & Cinelli gel cork tape, Kool Stop Salmon pads (need to trim the cable.. oops), Tektro's fork-crown cable stop.

Here's my rain bike 1982? Centurion Pro Tour: Tange Champion #2 butted tubing. Metallic blue paint over a chrome plated frame. Ancient Dynohub powers a modern LumoTec headlight with the "standlight" feature. That's a Zefal hf635 light on the bar, I just use its 3 yellow blinkie lights for added visibility but it also has a halogen light available for backup if I ever have problems with the LumoTec. Don

If you haven't seen one of these yet, meet the A type from Detroit Bikes. These bikes are manufactured in Detroit Michigan -- frames, racks, dropouts, chainguard, wheels. I love the matte black and the cool logos. And it rides great with 3 speeds.

Just joined, but I use my Dahon Mariner that I just purchased a few weeks ago. It's been an amazing bike for my daily commute to work and also my 10-20 mile daily rides after work.

Added a Ibera large frame bag, changed bars to a riser vs my j-bars, got a new pannier Seattle Sports Fast Pak, and put my old Ergon grips back on.

I like the fork as it has a ton of mounts for bottle cages racks and anything else you can think of. Ideally I would like to get another 29er wheel with a big apple and build it up for the front and sell the front wheel. It rolls smooth but it is heavy.
The front tire is 26x4 and the rear is 29x2.35, with the front tire size it equals out to be the same diameter as a 29er tire.

okay so my eyes were not deceiving me. they are two different sizes.
i cound not imagine my commute on tirest that large but I would love to have an opportunity to ridea fat bike on a trail sometime.

I just got the new saddle the other day. It's a Bontrager take-off I got cheap from the bike shop. I'm not sure on the exact model, but I like it so far. Also getting some fenders soon...Think I should go black or chrome?
My friend makes these as bumper stickers so I bought one from him and cut it to fit the chain stay (not sure what you call this side?).
