In checking it seems like you can get one in decent shape in the $300.00 - $500.00 range (I paid less than this) and they are a very nice ride.

The CT is pretty stiff but it is also lighter and pretty quick although the design really suits moderately paced riding... I can tick along at 25kmh with very low effort and it comes off the line like a rocket because of how much torque you can lay down.

There is a rear-suspension model on CL out past Raleigh for $450...

So this is my designated commuter, I have a roadie (Trek 1.5) that I do my fun rides or if I feel like a blast to work since there are several Strava segments I'd like to best other on.

2013 Trek 3500 Disc - completely factory and has the Trek Care Plus so I have nothing to worry about for 3 years (basically) and I am sure I'll see a lot of use out of it since this will be ridden year round in Chicago's lovely weather. I have some Planet Bike Cascadia fenders since nothing else seemed to work because of the brakes. I had a Ibera rack but I didn't like the way the bike rode with it installed so I will just backpack it up.

Have some nice Nokian studded tires for the winter so expecting no issues.

For a stock, base model, it rides and stops really well. I am surprised by how much less pressure discs need over rim brakes. My roadie seems to take forever to stop at times.

And yes it looks like I am cross chaining but it isn't.....

Well that's creative. Almost as creative as the dude who did his bike in chalkboard paint, which might be elsewhere in this thread.

I have two work-horse, year-round commuter bikes. My new bike is just for special days in nice weather. It's a 1990 Specialized Sirrus that I bought from my friend and just finished fixing up. I have seven speeds in the back, and a single 42T chainring on the front. It's my first downtube shifter. It feels pretty strange right now-- I might eventually change it to a bar end (but not yet, because it would ruin the new tape and cable). I'm also going to put a leather saddle on it. It's a lot of fun to ride!

I say this a lot, but consider also Retroshifts.

Here's my Rapid. Haven't used for commuting much (yet), mostly for fetching groceries and fitness and pleasure rides.

I picked this guy up today for a steal. It's not the best bike out there but it will fit the bill of daily use.
