They are rim mounted wheel lights called RevoLights. (Revolights Bike Lights). When the wheels are turning, they create a white arc of light in front and a red arc in back. Sort of Tron-like.

Very nice! What is the handlebar extender you are using to mount your lights?

Here is a bad picture. Fenders and rack I added on. Think I will just go with bar ends. She's not really built for speed
If you're looking for more hand positions, you could also look into putting trekking bars on there. They will provide with more hand positions and you can use your existing shifters/brake levers.

It's 3/4 PVC pipe with a couple fittings.Works good. The beam of the headlight isn't blocked partially by the cables. Originally thought I'd run two cree lights, overkill, just need one and use the Cateye as a backup and as a daytime strobe.

I adore my KHS 10-speed but wanted a second bike with tons o' gears because I live in the land of hills, so I bought this used, cheap 21-speed mountain bike and turned it into a candy-colored hybrid for occasional commuting and taking other fun rides:

It also has a fun bell:

What kind of wheels do you use? I may need to upgrade mine... I have a 2011 fuji newest 1.0 with original wheels... I recently broke a spoke in back and think I need stronger wheel...

Thanks

I didn't think that bike could be used as a commuter.... I have a 1971 schwinn super sport, and wanted to use it as a commuter (35 mile round trip), but decided not to... how much weight do you carry on your bags?

You don't need any kind of special or heavy duty wheel for a commuter. Folks have been doing loaded touring on conventional wheels for decades with no issues. What matters is that the wheel is well built, and the tire cross section is adequate for the weight you're carrying. Your frame allows tires at least 1-14" (32mm wide) so you have plenty of options.

Thanks for the feedback.... I haven't had any issues since spoke was replaced and wheel trued.... my lbs gave me some good advice which seems to be helping....they told me to go to easiest gear before I stop and start pedaling again.... starting riding from a difficult gear puts a ton a stress on my wheels and drivetrain.....I never knew that...I plan on keeping wheels as long as possible, I just thought i'd start asking around to see what others liked...

I always wanted to commute to work (14 miles each way) so I converted my Specialized Sirrus 2012 bike.

Bare bike to start with:

Added rack from OldManMountain

At work with the panniers lights and Specialized Bennies platform pedals. Oops, I didn't have the Bennies on this trip.

At Target for supplies:

Works well but doesn't have fenders. Luckily I don't ride when it's raining.

My commuter road bike has 20/24 spoke Vuelta Corsa Lites which come in about 1575 grams for the total wheelset. I carry at least 10-15 pounds on my rigged-up rear rack and have never had any problems in nearly a year of commuting on them. And I'm over 190 lbs myself.

Someone's commuter bike really depends on ones commute. I can use a BMX for my commute, if I wish.... and do just fine.

It was a nice bike in its time, the middle of the Schwinn lineup. It's a fine bike for a long trip, solid and smooth, with a long wheelbase and clearance for true-32mm tires. The rando handlebar, chain guard, and kickstand are nice features for everyday use, and the drivetrain is not as primitive as it looks. The problem as a commuter is that it doesn't have the modern standard braze-ons for racks on the seat stay and there is only one set of eyelets at each end; however you can solve this by using a rack that mounts to the brake or use P-clamps on the seat stays, or just using a backpack. I commute on mine and though my round trip is not as long as that, I would have no qualms taking it that far.

I found some Sunlite Utili 1-T panniers at my LBS. They are the zippered kind and lightweight. I haven't had any issues with them. They do have a tapered front which eliminated the foot hitting bag while pedaling problem I had with the other pannier that I tried.

New gear to make every bike a commuter....

Hey Guys,

So I got a new toy from the Mrs. this year, it is an oversized saddle bag from Oveja Negra which is handmade in Colorado. This thing as pictured is carrying a roll of clothes, PB&J, Lezyne Micro Floor Drive, and other misc. gear. My goal this year is to break the 50% mark for Bike/Truck commuting and this thing will certainly help. I have used panniers and backpacks and this thing blows them all out of the water. I can use any one of my bikes, keeps my gear lower and off my back, and I am only using about a 3rd of it's capacity (12L).

RyeRye, that's pretty amazing. Seriously 12L? I know what a 2L bottle is, and I can't imagine pouring 6 of them into that bag, but I guess they can't be lyin' (here's a link)

Gravel_Rash, nice setup, you got everything going on in that cockpit! I guess the gopro remote is clipped into the framebag strap?
