What if someone pulls out your crank bolts, and uses a Park Tool Crank Puller to steal your cranks, though? You gotta think of these things, man!

Bikes: 1 Custom built Colin Laing, a Waterford Paramount & my favorite of the bunch...a 90's TREK women's multitrack, cheap, 21 spds & I can leave her locked up anywhere w/o worrying about theft.

Haha, they're cheap stamped steel. They'd be welcome to have them if they put that much effort into it. If I'm going to lock it it's usually at the train / bus depot since it drops me within 1/4 mile from work & there's lots of sketchy people around there, the racks always got bikes w/ missing parts or cut cables left on the floor.

Nice, I have that same exact bike at home, I helped my mom buy it on CL, then when she and dad got themselves a pair of folders, she gave it to my (very tall) elementary-school-aged son, it's his 'road bike'. He likes purple.

Me!

ready to ride in the darkness for winter bike to work day. no real difference between today and the other 2 days this week I rode but it helped with the motivation! I do have to say that I think the sun actually rose before I got to work it was much brighter!

I've shown this in another forum, but what the heck...I still like it.

It's got fairly wide tires (700Cx50), which makes the ride comfortable. And for some reason, I worry less about the smaller potholes than if I had skinny tires.

Got this in the early 90s on to transport a toddler to daycare on the way to work and ended up riding it for years after she got too big to carry. Here it is after several iterations of parts and cleaned up for sale, in December.

Fires a 12 ga. rifled slug.

Actually it's only large in the vertical dimension. Agree it's a strange part.

I'm sorry that your bike was stolen (and that you haven't replaced it for over a year). If you want to know exactly what it was, you can look here and see if you can find it, but you should be able to buy a comparable mtb off craigslist for a few hundred dollars. Post a separate thread and people will look at craigslist links and give you opinions.

getting my dedicated commuter bike set up!
Waiting on some larger tires to finish the fender install, going to put a +17, 80mm stem and maybe get a new seat to save my nice pants from destruction.

There's a real deficit of quality used bikes in this town, so when I was looking to source a commuter for my friend I skipped craigslist and turned directly to ebay. I bought this 1997 Novara for $200 including shipping. I had a few spare parts around the house, but otherwise all the original components worked well. I'll leave it to my friend to decide on F/R racks and panniers.

Is that one of those stems used by shops to get the fit dialed in? I saw some at my LBS the other day that had warnings to not actually ride the bike with one of those stems in place. It's only to be used on a trainer during the fit process.

presicely. I was trying to get the cockpit set up for commute clothing and not the technical fabrics I would have on my other bike. Changes are 1" higher and 20mm shorter than my fast bike with the same saddle position relative to the cranks.

now I put a 110mm stem on the bike that I had when I need an 80mm -17 to get in the position I want.
