Nice bike. I almost got that fork. Do you know anything about the CAAD3 model? Was there a model number to it like m700 or something. I am curious because I cant find it in the cannondale catalogs. Was it a high end model? Thanks.

I LIKE THIS! How well is the dynamo hub working out for you on this?

I think the CAD3 was just offered as a frame. I bought and built up mine back in 2000. Before that in 98 I bought a CAD3 cross frame that is styill going strong today. The MB frame was $600 and I was able to get for $300. I believe the early F700 or F600 was the same frame but offered as a complete bike.

I've posted before, but I upgraded this spring. I got a good price on last year's Kona Dew Deluxe, so, after much soul searching (I'm an old-fashioned steel touring bike aficionado), dropped for the Dew Deluxe. I have had to make some changes of course. ;-)

I've added:

1. new grips
2. mirror
3. lights (cateye blinker, and cheapo blinking front light)
4. fenders
5. "Swiss Army Bikes" front and rear racks.

As an experiment, I've attached my panniers to my front rack. They are a bit big, and really catch the air when riding into a headwind, but it is nice to be carrying the weight on the front again. ;-)

I'm still pondering what kind of headlight I will get, but with the days getting longer, I probably won't need something until next fall...

Without further ado...

bdcheung, that's handsome. You commute on that? You have an aggressive position on the bike, as evidenced by the low handlebars.

What kind of brakes do you have?

I agree with the quote in your signature. Reliability over performance!

I'm also a racer, so I treat commuting as training.

The brakes are Shimano R550's.

Good God! I guess they do catch some air. How much beer can you fit in each of them? About four cases?

Yeah, lots of air. ;-) As to the beer, I wouldn't know. I don't drink the stuff. :-) Although one of them will hold my big computer bag that will hold a 15" computer, and a bunch of books. I think they are about 30 litres each (about a cubic foot).

Its actually the GF's, but she likes it a lot. I have ridden it a handful of times and it is smooth and comfy. seems to be built quite solidly, which is good, because she tends to abuse her stuff. The three speed internal geared hub (nexus) is sort of a waste here in flat chicago, where I just leave it in the highest gear every time I ride it.

2 Crosschecks, each with a different use

For hauling and trucking

upgraded the brakes for stronger stopping power

I sold my fixed gear IRO to get another Crosscheck due to its versatility (bigger tires, real fenders. The Surly did naturally what I modified the IRO to do). This gets the most commuting time

What's the setup on the rear dropouts?

I have a lot of issue with slippage on my crosscheck, no matter how tight I make the quick release!

Gyeswho, nice rides. a perfect example of the cross check's versatility, by the way what are those mud flaps made of? do they ever cause any problems?
