Chasing, facing, reaming? What?

I'm currently frame shopping and on Speedgoat they say " All frames puchased at Speedgoat come with complete frame prep. This includes chasing and facing the bottom bracket, and reaming and facing the head tube where appropriate".

What do all these terms mean? If I buy a frame on eBay, is there a good chance I would have to do all these things on my own?

You would think that a framebuilder would have done that work. Chasing means running a tap through the threads in the bottom bracket. Facing means cutting the outer faces of the bottom bracket and head tube to make sure the parts fit on there flat.

And, unfortunately the manufacurers don't always take into account different parts. I'm pulling a tapered crank BB as we speak and moving to an external bearing ISIS crank, and Gary Fisher didn't bother to face the BB since it didn't need to be done for the BB they used. Whether you need it done more depends on the components you plan to use. unterhausen could be 100% correct, in that the work may be done for you *if* you're using certain components

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!
