Mine is just under 5 miles one way. I can make it 7 miles in by swinging a bit south and cutting through the Maryland campus. More often (once or twice a week) I swing north on the way home (organic market) to make it about a 7 mile return trip. Round trip 10-14 miles. The direct route in (of which there are several variants other than the above) takes me around 20 minutes. The direct route home is a few minutes longer (more traffic and lights than I catch at 5:00 AM).

If I ride the whole way, it's 16.75 miles each way, mostly flat. I mix it up by taking the train for part of the commute a few times a week, which gives me an out if I'm tired or the weather's bad. If I take the train it's only about 4 miles each way.

The whole ride takes about 60-75 minutes depending on wind and the lights.

34 miles roundtrip full commute. It takes about 1:30 each way. Elevation is similar at my house and at work. On the roundtrip there's about 1300 feet of uphill and 1300 downhill. If I do a 9-mile part commute, I begin at the lowest elevation of my route, so going to work is a little slower compared to coming home (net downhill). There are plenty of stoplights, busy intersections, and a railroad crossing that break up the ride. I have a few other partway commutes that depend on how much I feel like riding that day (or if I feel like riding in the dark). Usually they just slide my start point closer to the house on the same route.

Normally I don't make any sidetrips or errands on my commute rides.

My first time 17-mile (one-way) commute was 2 hours; last time I was on pace for 1:25 but flatted out 2 miles from my destination.

8.1 miles one way, 16.2 round trip. Unless I go the long way round and then it's 19-20 miles round trip. To work is almost all downhill. Coming home is almost all uphill. About a 30 min ride in the morning turns into 45-55 min at the end of the day. Depending on wind and traffic that can slow me down.

3.5km on the way in, 12-13km on the way home; I ride as far as I feel like and take my bike on the train the rest of the way. The short morning ride is so I don't have to wake up early or shower when I arrive. (The alternative when I'm not cycling is a 3km bus trip from the closest station, which on average takes about the same amount of time -- the extra .5km when riding is to avoid the bus route.)

Each way
9.5 miles in the snow
23 miles in winter when I do not have enough light to make it home.
28 in summer

Done on a fixed gear. Though I am pondering building up a geared cx bike but am having issues convincing myself to spend cash with this crappy economy.

4.5 miles one way, on about the shortest route. 15 minutes-ish. The afternoon varies, usually about 5 miles because I take an alternate route to avoid some hills. It gets mixed up on a regular basis.

Currently I am only 4 miles one way. Once the weather breaks I will have to increase the distance because I have to prepare for my summer trips. Previous communting trips were 17 miles one way. It made training much easier. I ride everywhere.

I am about 12.5 miles each way. My time really varies depending on the wind. My best time is 52 minutes and my worst is slightly over an hour. I am riding a modified Trek 4300 that comes in at about 35 pounds, with nothing on it. However, it is bulletproof.

12+ miles each, but, I usually take a different way home which adds about three miles. I work a 12 hour day, 6-6. At 5 in the morning, I can make the entire ride and count the number of cars I see on one hand. At 6:30 PM, I get the same number of cars, ohh about every 15-30 seconds, so I take the scenic route through the middle of nowhere. It's kinda weird riding a deserted unlit road through the middle of a tobacco field in complete darkness. Beats the hell out of becoming a hood ornament on some asswhipe's tahoe though.

5 miles each way and usually takes about 20 minutes. It's a flat ride but our prevailing wind patterns means I usually have headwind both directions though almost always much stronger on the homeward leg.

8 miles in to work, same route going home. I work 12 hour swing shifts, so the ride in is usually around 30 minutes, the ride home more like 40 to 45. That long shift gets heavy on the return!

Good luck! My employer is changing shifts and having several shut downs for weeks at a time to try and keep us on the payroll the rest of the year. I'm not complaining!

I have a really great commute that IMO, belies the image of Boston as a city unfriendly to bicycling. I live in Downtown and ride to a suburb 14 miles distant in the reverse traffic commuting pattern in just over an hour (at least half an hour by car). Then in the evening, I take my bike back to Boston on a commuter rail train, since the train is empty on the reverse commute. The Train Station is about 3 minutes from work, the Downtown Station is about three miles from home, and the train ride is about one-half hour long. I usually leave home about 5:30 AM, and this is my idea of peace on earth. To train for a century, I just do ever-lengthening routes to work, up to about 30 miles.

2.5 to shuttle bus stop and 3.5 home. averages somewhat up hill in and of course down on the way home. takes 15 minutes in and 18 minutes home. Lately my averages are 10 mph in and 12 mph home. Road at 5:45 am is quiet but too crazy on the way home so I use an alternate going home. Got knocked down last year on the way home on a beautiful clear sunny day. safety in the longer route home. besides the hills through the residential streets are more fun without the cars to dodge. though the blind T intersections at the bottom of some of the hills are a pain to deal with. Grand plan is to build up to the long commute to work 13 miles one way but that is down the path a bit longer. Edit: my ride is a Fuji Absolute 4.0.

The ride into work is about 10 miles and it takes about 43-50 min depending on how I catch the lights. My ride home is the same unless I need to stop for something.

My ride to work in warmer weather is 12 miles, taking about 50 minutes to an hour depending on how you hit the lights. It also gets better later on after the legs are back in tune with the hills between home and the office. There's one hill that I have to take a break on mid way up early in the season. After the old bod' is used to it, I can go all the way. That sucker is a long one with a pretty hefty grade.

6+ miles one way. Usually take the same route, which is relatively traffic free, both ways. At night, its mostly in the dark, though. Very little wind at either time.

Riding a Yukon Giant SE with smoothies.
