First Ride:
On my new FG Commuter. Well it's actually my first FG bike ride ever and Although I have to admit to being scared silly to ride it. My other commute bike is a big, heavy Hybrid running 700x32 tires. I kept looking at the 23's on the FG and thinking, "Those ain't gonna hold me up". I've had the bike since yesterday and finally screwed up enough courage and curiosity to get on it today.
I've kind of been practicing the last few commutes by trying to not stop pedaling for the entire ride. You don't realize how much you coast until you really start paying attention (try it!).
Sooooooo, I waited until darkness in order to cut down on any potential witnesses. I live just off of a pretty busy mup surrounding a lake. I wheeled my new bike down to the street while mentally telling myself,"NO COASTING", over and over again. Clipped my right foot in, lifted the rear tire and rotated the crank to about 3 o'clock and pushed off. And immediately had a near crash. Guess I never noticed that I coasted to clip my left foot in. Stopping is equally amusing, at least the way I do it. Yes I have a front brake.
Right now I'm at 78 gear inches. I think I'm gonna stay there for now and see how it goes...
