2009 Schwinn World Tour DLX Commuter Bike

Just got the latest Performance Bicycle catalog and saw this bike advertised for $699. Not sure if this would be good for folks looking for a commuter - it looks good to me except I didn't see any holes in the front fork for mounting a front rack. Just thought I'd share the info.

If it has cantilever brakes and fender mounts, a front rack can be mounted. Nitto makes a rack that mounts to canti bosses. I think Nashbar has a knockoff, if the thought of putting an expensive Nitto rack on a cheap bike bothers you....

Hats off to Schwinn and Performance. The pump doubling as a seatpost is an interesting idea. Don't know how it would be to actually USE, but it's a nice spec.

Specs say that you can mount lowriders on it. I don't see fork brazons though.

I've been thinking on sliding a frame pump down the seat tube of one bike.
Haven't gotten around to it yet.

So you just remove the saddle and post then turn the bike over to get the pump out?

I don't know - it seems if the pump comes in and out easy enough, it might rattle around in the tube.

sounds like an annoyance, the last thing I want to do when changing a flat is take my seat off, what do you rest you bike on when it's upside down? take seat off, remove pump, put seat back on, change flat, take seat off AGAIN ! UGH!

Just looks like a solid budget touring bike.

That's a good thing though. I do hope it has lowrider mounts, but I've attached racks with p clamps on steel forks that worked quite well, so not a big deal.

What is N’Gauged Chromoly and how does it rank against the steel used in other frames? What steel is used in the more expensive commuter bikes?

It'll likely just be standard chromoly, equivalent to 4130 or reynolds 520.
