I finally commuted by bike

Finally, I got my act together and biked in to work today, my first full bike commute. 15.75 miles, 850 feet of climbing, 810 feet of descending. I averaged 12 mph (those long hills ruined my averages), which is pretty pathetic but is sure to increase with time. My seat-back bag is quite heavy when stuffed with a change of clothes, lunch, and snacks!

Now I just need to make it home tonight...

Sounds similar to my commute. I wouldn't want to do it without my motor and battery, but that's just me.

How was the ride home? Suggestion: bring some items in to work in advance if you can, like clothes and food, etc. I try to have a mix of stuff I stock here and other items I choose to carry.

HA! You're such an amateur! We hard core battle hardened bicycle commuters are LAUGHING at your feeble attempt to join our proud ranks!

... oh by the way, today marks my second day of commuting on the bike. I'm a little slower than you, but it feels pretty good!

12mph average over 15 miles is nothing to be ashamed of. It proves that you don't ride like Lance Armstrong, but neither do the rest of us on bikeforums. Sounds like you've got some serious uphill riding to contend with in both directions.

Practice your commute, eat well, hydrate well, sleep well, and then if you're still worrying about being slow, just quit worrying.

+1 Respectable time, respectable distance, respectable life-choice. So, what's the problem? Sounds like you're in grave danger of becoming a 'lifer'. Welcome to the dark side.

The good thing about commuting is that you can eat most anything you want and not gain wait. I don't mean to beat my own drum but my commute builds me up for the weekend rides. Weekends is when I take my roadbike out and play by the lake.
