Amazon Kindle in a rack trunk?

I just got a kindle and am pretty stoked. Anyone have any experience with them bike commuting? I don't do the backpack thing and can't find any info on the interwebz about how the digital ink would react to vibrations.

uh, pretty sure you can treat it the same as a laptop or notebook, except the kindle is a bit more robust.

did I walk into a parody thread?
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

I have a Sony eBook reader, which is basically the same thing. I've had no trouble carrying it. They're pretty tough.

I did buy a steel hard case for it off eBay; I don't think it's totally necessary but it made me feel better. The case I got is basically a big neoprene lined altoids tin. I'd assume they'd be available for the Kindle too.
Work: the 8 hours that separates bike rides.

You can use it safely while cycling only if you wear a helmet while reading.

like ItsJustMe, I also have a sony ebook reader.

I only got it a few weeks ago, and jsut started riding my bike again. I've carried the reader in my Ortlieb large handlebar bag, and have had no problems with it, nor do I see any problems occurring from carrying it in the bag. I am only using the cover that came with the reader, it seems enough to prevent any damage from something bumping into it while in the bag (cell phone, etc.)...

It is a nice thing to own, Im very happy I purchased the reader. The other day I rode to a park and pulled out the reader for an hour. Its nice to have a couple hundred books in something the size of a notepad.

I'd say go for it. Just be careful of what comes in contact with the screen i guess.

Not a parody thread, just a coincidence with the other thread. I've tried a bit of searching and couldn't find anything on the digital ink technology. As I understand, it is basically magnetically arranged "ink" particles (kind of like a super-fast etch-a-sketch. I didn't know how that would do with bouncing around.

    Although, it seems VERY sturdy.

Glad to hear others have no problem, I'll just get a sleeve for it and go happily on my way.
