Hey all
I always have this problem of what to do with my bike helmet when I’m on the go, that is when I park my bike at school or at the supermarket and really don’t feel like taking the helmet with me inside… Do you have any ideas?

I put the U-lock through the ear straps and leave it with the bike. Sure if someone wanted it badly enough they could find a way take it, but it would take a bit of effort. They would then be the proud owner of a sweaty used helmet that probably wont fit them. I suppose they could cut if off and steal just to be an ******* vandal, but these are the risks we take in our lives. If that's too much to bear, then take the brain bucket with you.

+1 I always just lock it with my bike.

I use a handlebar bag and panniers.
- The panniers are actually saddle bags so they are a pain to remove, so they stay put. I pay put my water bottles and pump in them just to keep them out of view. Luckily I live in a "good" area so theft is not a huge concern.
- I keep everything of real value in the handlebar bag. When I get a store I lockup and take out the shoulder strap that I keep inside the handlebar bag. I then pass the strap through the helmet straps. and hang the handlebar bag over my shoulder. Basically my handlebar bag becomes a "Man Purse" with my helmet hanging off the side. If works great, takes only seconds, and everything I carry of value is with me (wallet, cell phone, tools, etc).

I always just clip my helmet to the frame and hope somebody steals it (the helmet, not the bike).

I take my helmet with me. I usually clip it to my backpack straps so I don't accidently leave my helmet behind on a chair, on the floor, etc etc.

Same here. Now temps are in the 20s and 30s, so I've been wearing a hat and foregoing the helmet. But I'll go back to wearing the helmet soon.

Sorry but you are royal dumb. A hat will not help you if some fool in his car gives you a tap. WEAR A HELMET!!!

I do this too. Plus, I feel like if someone wants my helmet bad enough to steal off my bike, then they probably really need it and should have it.

Oh boy, here we go. I know you mean well, but this is the subject of many a religious war, and people on both sides can muster cogent arguments (yeah, believe it or not, they can, so think about it before you fire back). I always wear a helmet when I'm on the bike myself, but I think most helmet-wearers don't recognize the limits of helmets (and a lot of people who wear them, don't wear them properly). They do offer a measure of protection against a type of injury that I really don't want, which is why I wear one. They don't make you bulletproof.

If you feel you really need to wear one to school or the market, you will have to get used to carrying it around with you. It's not that much of an adjustment. Otherwise there is a chance of losing it. It'a an easy target for kids.

I usually take my helmet with me, but when I don't...

I just hang mine on my bars, but I live in a town where I don't usually bother locking my bike either, and I have $300 worth of Dinotte lights on the bike that aren't locked either. So my method probably isn't of much use to others.

But if I were locking up and wanted to leave my helmet outside, I'd just put one of the straps through the U lock.

I just unclip the strap and leave it on my head for most errands. If I'm just popping into the grocery store for 2 or 3 quick things on the way home from work, I just lean my bike against the wall inside by the carts (not locked) go and get my items and leave.
If it's a full grocery run with the utility cruiser, I've probably left my helmet at home and I don't need to worry about where I'll put it.

I store mine on a shelf in my closet. I never lose it that way.

When I rode with a helmet I would leave it with the bike, also unlocked, outside of the store.

Depends on where I am. On campus, it comes with me.

At the grocery story or at work, I just strap it to the handlebars.

I take mine with me, strap it to my bag.

I know I've seen backpacks that are designed with a compartment to strap the helmet onto the backpack for when you get off the bike.
