rain bike/mountain bike turned commuter (pic)

Just finished up converting a 1996 Univega mtb into a rain bike/mountain bike. I got it done with parts I had, swapping the pedals, seatpost, saddle, bar ends, front derailleur, and tires/tubes. The fenders I also had laying around, and I finally found a way to put them to good use.

So now I have both a fair weather commuter-friendly road bike, and foul weather commuter.

This 'new' bike handles nicely, and the ride is great since it's a steel frame with wider tires. It's heavy, but I don't really mind since it's not my road bike.

whadda you guys think? My good lights are on my other bike.

Nice conversion. I think a rear-mounted rack would go well with that bike.

Very nice.

When you get the rack that nvincent suggests, do yourself a favor and get a touring rack. They are a little longer, and you can put your panniers father back.
Otherwise, with the relatively short chainstays on the MTB, you'll hit your heels on the pannier.
I have an old steel mtb that I use. I have a regular rack and I hate it. Ordering the touring rack this weekend.

+1 on the rack. Looks good, though.
