Damn bike to work week! One week too late
OK, so I’ve been looking forward to bike to work week since the last one. Not that it makes much of a difference since I almost always ride. However, I forgot about a dental appointment last week, so we had to reschedule for today. OK, I can deal with missing one day of bike to work week, since I had to drive to the appointment. But tonight, and I can not believe this happened, such a rookie move, I blew out my knee during Judo class. I’m not usre exactly what I did to it but I think my thigh twisted one way and everything below my knee twisted the other way… and there was a cracking noise. I’ve been in the martial arts for over twenty years and I don’t think I have ever had an injury this serious. I’m sittin here on the couch while my wife caters to me.... but she wont bring me a beer like I asked…. she doesn’t want me to mix alcohol with the Advil I just took.... bless her heart.
I may not be able to ride for months!!!

Cycling is good therapy for knee injuries.
Get well soon.

One of my coworkers had knee surgery and they had him do cycling on a trainer as therapy, but I am no doctor I would check with him first.

See the doc and go from there.
A fellow bike clubber (~70 YO) has been riding with a torn ACL for the last few years per his doctor's recommendation. This rider has no desire to go through reconstructive knee surgery at this point in his life. Plus, he rides fine. However, he has adjusted his form to accommodate the injury.

Yes ... check with the doc first. Cycling strengthens the muscles above and below the knees and can help with stability.
My knees, well, suck. Both ACL's are torn, and I've had several surgeries for cartilage injuries. Using the spin bike at
home for therapy has helped a lot over the years. But always seek the doc and the PT''s advice first. Good luck.

in my experience, swimming is a lot better than cycling for your knees. If you do ride the bike, spin.

Beer is good for your knees. Tell your wife I said so.
