Final comprehensive exams for my Master's are on Monday so I spent most of my evening at the library. My 4 am 4 mile ride was greeted by no cars and 2 groups of whitetail deer on the road. I should do that more often.

Uneventful ride in at 5:10 am and decent temps at 4 C ( 40 F). Yesterday was the first day that anyone has shaddowed me for the majority of my ride. I guess the winter is officially over. I welcome the company, and always hope to get a repeat.

One of my first posts - long time reader.
First day riding my new bike in to work, loved it.
I have been using a single speed bike all winter and picked up a new ridgeback century yesterday. With panniers I took all the weight off my back and really enjoyed the ride, made 17 miles feel like 5, I am going to try and do this ride at least 3 times a week now.

The pollen finally caught up with me. We've been having the highest pollen levels in years but it hadn't seem to bother much until yesterday. I've ridden nearly every day for the past two weeks, but drove today to give my body a break from the pollen. Yesterday and this morning I had a scratchy throat, congestion, coughing and just felt cruddy -- and I am certain it is from the pollen rather than a cold coming on. Hopefully the pollen will drop off soon.

I'm happy to enter my first bike commute of the year. Thanks to a new job which allows me to once again be among the fine people that are bike commuters!
I have REALLY missed it!
My new commute is 10 miles each way. 8 miles of bikeway. 2 miles roads. My work day starts at 6:00AM so will be riding in the dark every morning regardless of time of year.
Beautiful morning to be on the bike! I feel GREAT!

40F/4C and sunny this morning. Tailwind. Saw some other cyclists. Things are starting to get green around here. Leaves are budding, etc. I think I'm going to switch to my all-terrain tires this weekend so I can take scenic dirt trails home.

I moved from Great Falls to Denver in 2006. I sure remember those spring storms!

Pleasant is the best word I can think of to describe my last couple of commutes, great weather with just a handful of folks out on the MUP both ways. I even stopped by a friends house to play a prank on her on Tuesday.

Low 50s, calm, sunny. A perfect day to ride a bike to work. I was in Full Fred Mode today: couldn't find my cuff straps so I used duct tape and couldn't be bothered to change shoes so I rode my clipless pedals with normal dress shoes. Works fine if you're just putt-putting along.

Lost Again
Best day of the year so far and I had to drive. Nevermind the details, but really I had to.
A note from Wednesday's commute. I was riding along and a car with a smashed in rear bumper passed me. A few minutes later, he passed me again! My thoughts were is this guy casing me? Would he come buy one more time and jump me to take my bike? I was in a marginal neighborhood, and I wasn't afraid there normally, but it is located between a couple areas where unsavory sorts would travel between. I never saw the guys again, but I'll tell you, I was looking for them for a few more miles and was far enough away with enough turns that I was hopefully beyond finding.
Probably nothing, but it had me wondering. There has been a couple bicycle muggings in town the last few months.

Mid 80's in Illinois, but tomorrow will cool down to the 60's again (where I like it). I did 25 miles just commuting and running errands today, plus I slept 4 hours last night, so right now is a good time to hibernate.

40F, damp, with an annoying headwind. My legs are spent. I did some running on Wednesday and it caught up to me last night I guess. I was barely hitting 13MPH into the wind. I saw no other cyclists until I got about a block from work, and a guy was riding the other way on the street.
Probably going to get wet on the ride home.

41F and cloudy with winds from the N @ 3mph. There's supposed to be rain showers today, but my commute was dry. I did have a minute of random hail with tiny pieces. It didn't last long but still stung. It actually started to rain as i was locking my bike up on campus though, so i was pretty lucky.

I decided to brave the pollen cloud again today after taking a day off. It didn't seem as bad as the past few days, and the weather is ideal -- sunny with mild temps and little wind. My legs were feeling rested, so I picked up the pace more than usual but caught nearly every red light on my route and my time was about the same as usual. Red lights - the great equalizer.

Good ride home last night. My wife went to a happy hour, so I swung by home, picked up my camera to take a couple pictures of something I knew I was riding to, and took off again. Tacked on an extra ten miles. Returned home only b/c I didn't want to miss the Caps' playoff game. Otherwise would have kept riding who knows how long...
I'm less excited about today's weather - not exactly my favorite weather forecast. Calling for 85 in the afternoon, but 60s starting again tomorrow. That's more comfort zone, even 50s are good. 80s... no thanks. You can have 'em. Despite my lack of enthusiasm about this afternoon's weather, the ride in the morning was nice and relaxed. Temps around 60, nice and sunny.

About 2C when I left home; it's supposed to get to 22C this afternoon.
On the commute the other day when I was almost home, I stopped to make a left turn while I waited for oncoming traffic to clear. A car full of young men drove by with their windows open, and the unmistakable scent of ganja wafted out. Sometimes I'll catch a whiff of the stuff as I'm riding through a park, but I think that's the first time I smelled it coming out a car.

45F, blinding sun.
5 yr old's 1st commute by trail-a-bike (rather than trailer). The little power assist made a lot of those hills easier even though the t-a-b weighs a fair bit more than the trailer.

Oh yes, we almost got flattened in her preschool's parking lot by another parent who came screaming in from another entrance blazing straight for the door. He was really embarrassed. Looked at my hi-viz coat, flashing lights, said he totally didn't see us. My daughter was reflective but not hi-viz (other than generalized pink) but it was bright out.

Light rain this morning but thanks to my new front fender, I didn't get too wet. Shoes were surprisingly dry.
The rear fender needs some southern engineering so it hasn't yet been installed. Sky is overcast now but with any luck I'll have a dry ride home tonight.

Smooth commute at 51F and cloudy with winds from the N @ 7mph. During the last 3 miles or so, i was definitely fighting a prevailing headwind. For some reason my sense of smell was sensitive this afternoon. Normally i don't notice many smells during the ride, unless they're strong, but i passed at least 3 different places that smelled wicked great. The smells kinda made me hungry as well.

Platelet donation on the way to work. Glad to see there were already 2 other bikes on the rack when I arrived at BloodSource.
