Easy ride in, but I had to go back twice, because of things that I forgot. That happens when I do things out of order. It was 60 F (16 C), and cloudy. On top of that I forgot my lock, but I am in a secure area, so no one will run off with my ride. On top of that it is a very old comfortable bike, so I don't believe it is high on the steal list.

Nice and cool this morning, tailwind too. Even though I was pretty tired and, my legs are still sore from last weekend's workout, I sailed into work, making great time. Looks like rain for most of the day-bummer, oh well, I get to ride straight home today instead of picking up the car first. This is huge, especially when it's raining-I much prefer parking the bike and going straight upstairs to shower and change rather than putting my bike on the car then driving home soaking wet only to unload the bike, park the car, then shower/change. Hopefully I'll be able to get home in between storms-I monitor the weather radar throughout the day.

I can't talk to anyone in the morning while I'm packing - just so I don't forget something important like underwear! HELLO!

u pack in order of use? meaning the stuff for the ride home is at the bottom and the cleanup or change of clothes is at the top? I do. sometimes though, because of the way my brain works I have to pack in the opposite direction and then flip it all upside down which would then be right side up. .... UGH

Global Warming strikes back: A balmy 47* at 7am this morning. A bit nippy for mid-June, but otherwise a beautiful morning.

First commute with a new Carradice SQR Slim seatpost bag. It's not perfect, but is very nice, looks stylish, and riding is great with no backpack.

I packed my wife's socks this morning. They seemed kinda small at first, the giveaway was the "no nonsense" sewn across the toes. I'm wearing my riding socks right now.

Isn't amazing what a difference a new chain can make? Just 15-20 minutes to exchange the chains and my commuter bike shifts better and is much quieter. The weather around here is just about perfect. May rain this afternoon but who cares, it is finally warm.

Done it! I have to pack the night before (or at least lay out my clothes). I have to be a little careful. Some of my jeans have huge holes in them!! Ha!

Jerry H.

PS. Great ride this morning. A little humid. Rode the '81 Raleigh today. Still a great ride.

Today is my one non-riding day this week, mainly to give my legs a break as I am re-gaining lost cycling fitness from some time off. I really felt out of place in the car...... on a freeway.

warm (60F+) and fixed. Last night was also warm (60F+) but geared, though less so than usual, my FD cable snapped while pulling out of the driveway at work, so rode downtown to get my daughter in her trailer on my 24t granny ring w/ the sprung derailer dragging the whole way, clackclackclackclack blech.

Happened to have a spare cable at home but my wife wound up driving so no trailering the 4yo today.

Not riding this week because I'm trying to get over a severely achy knee. However, I always pack the night before (and prep my bike). Just too tired and unfocused in the morning.

Beautiful morning today - high 60's and sunny. Met a fellow rider on the way in on the bike path that was also taking the subway downtown, and we rode together for the last mile - nice way to start the morning. Part II of the commute after getting off the train was a trip. I commute through downtown Los Angeles on Figueroa St. on the way to USC, and it happened that there was a parade for the Lakers basketball team for winning the NBA championship. Of course, Figueroa was blocked off to cars - but not to bikes!! With no vehicular traffic to speak of, (except cops on bicycles and the occaisional cruiser), I was able to absolutely fly down that street. Usual 20 minute ride was cut to just under 10 - it was awesome!! The evening ride home will probably be the usual slog, but hey, its still better than driving.

Blue skies, sunny, 60+ degrees; is summer finally here?

No leg warmers or arm warmers today; what a great ride up the mountain to work.

The worst part of the day is looking at my bike next to my desk in my office all day; it just makes me wish 5 pm was already here.

Mmmmmm, tough decision ahead; which way down the mountain today?

Fantastic! Perfect weather. I rolled in earlier than normal, so the rabbits were still out and about munching on grass. Daisies, Sweetpeas and blackberries are still in bloom. Chicory is just beginning to bloom.

I got to travel light today, on the road bike with no backpack and no cargo whatsoever.

Stress in the cross walk

On my return trip I was riding on the sidewalk because it's wide and drivers always honk if I ride in the street. So, I was in the crosswalk of a major street, and a car wanting to turn right on red raced into the crosswalk without seeing me so that we almost collided. I always have a kind of big physical fear reaction when this happens, but I hate to dismount and walk across the street, which would reduce the danger but seriously slow me down--and I am already a slow rider. Anyway, I told the driver to stop before he entered the crosswalk, and he called me a curse word.
I know I should control myself and never, ever say anything, but the noise, heat, fear, resentment of the planet-melters, and feeling of being out of the mainstream are really getting to me. I would switch back to driving, but whenever I drive, I miss the movement of biking much too much. Also, I gave my car away. Also, I am truly worried about global warming.
My trip to work was actually great, though.

Newwwwww record!

59 minutes from my office (on the fourth floor, includes waiting for the elevator) to the door of my garage! W00t I am psyched!

My previous record was 61 minutes. I've been trying to make it home in under an hour for a while now.

I started from about 75 minutes (although I changed my route, this one is slightly longer but has maybe 2/3 the climbing).

I'm gonna try for a record on the way in tomorrow too, but of course two record days back to back is pretty unlikely... Also I don't actually know what my current record on the way in is. For some reason I'm never in as big a hurry on the way TO work .

The ride home was nice and hot! Traffic seemed especially courteous today but then again, I'm always careful.

Fast commute today. 15 minutes for my 5km. Bike traffic was dense as usual as I approached work and pretty much had to travel with them. 29C (84F for the metrically challenged) with 58% humidity, and I rode in jeans and a t-shirt, so fairly sweaty when I arrived. But the others have the aircon in the office at full blast so I was dry in a few minutes.

Looking forward to the change in commute which will happen soon when I move to 12 km either way, on mostly deserted bike lanes that are 10 m across.
