One thing that blows my mind is the isolated weather that is created on the Wasatch Range, while the valley can be sunny. Much moreso than when I lived in Colorado - the mountains rise much more steeply here, so the visual impact of the storms on the mountains is stunning. That's not to diss Colorado mind you (Colorado is my home).
It's getting warmer again, almost 70 degrees (21C) for the ride in, suppossed to hit 100 (38C) this afternoon. A cool front is headed our way on Saturday night, and next week looks MUCH better. Nothing higher than 86F (30C).

paper said early morning fog would burn off. Not before it thickened to genuine rain. Argh.
Last night going home, my 8 yr old rolled over a broken beer bottle; it was still intact, just the bottom had come off. It shattered, glass shards flew everywhere. Tires still aired up this morning! Although I was most concerned about his legs getting shredded by shrapnel at the time. That didn't happen either.

Had to take my bike home early because I am going to need the Jeep around 5pm, anyway it is still a wonderful day, except for a 200 mph headwind, no matter which direction I was headed. Still a nice ride and hopefully a great weekend coming up.

Funny. I thought those omnidirectional headwinds only happened here.
Rode in wearing chinos and a polo (casual Friday here) with bibs and jersey in my pack. With luck I'll be able to take a nice 30 mile detour home.

I was proud of myself this morning. It was the first morning I walked out the door into a fairly steady rain and didn't turn around and run like a little biotch.
I've ridden home in such situations, since, well, I didn't feel like waiting around for the wife to come fetch me. This time I decided, fuggit, just water, warm water at that. It'll wash right off.
It was kinda spotty, till the last 10 minutes or so when it went to full on downpour along with a fair bit of thunder and lightning.
Needless to say, when I got to work, there was no need to soak my hand towel in the sink. All the sweat was pretty well washed off before I walked in the door.
Warm summer showers are really nice to ride in. I think I really do need to consider getting fenders though as I damn near drowned during the downpour!

Just an errand, not a commute; anyway, the approach to my house from this one direction has a 200' drop followed by a 200' climb (according to mapmyride...) over like 6 blocks and today, w/ no luggage and no kid(s), just flying down and then up on my fixie, it was a lot of fun. (nice red light at the bottom of the valley to get my breath back for the climb)

Nice ride this morning. I have to be at work at 6 AM, saw no one. Weekdays, I meet two other commuters with lights bright enough to illuminate the Grand Canyon. I'm blind for about ten yards after passing them. I love the Sunday silence and solitude on Denver's Platte River and Bear Creek MUP's.

Great ride this morning, the first in the 60s over the past few weeks. It's been in the 70s for a while, sometimes approaching 80 F at 6 am. Crazy hot.
My summer-long streak of avoiding thunderstorms was busted big time on Friday afternoon. I left work an hour early because I had some comp time and there were a lot of storms popping up in the area. However, when I headed home the radar showed no storms along my route. Four miles into my ride the sky got very dark and it started splattering big rain drops. Soon it was pouring with lightning popping left and right. I rode 8 miles through the thunderstorm and was quickly repaid for missing storms all summer long. Totally soaked. When I got home, my rain gauge showed we got nearly 1" of rain and I'm sure that rode through at least that much because there were rivers pouring down all the sides of the streets.

Upper 60sF and humidity in the 90s. It wasn't too bad though. I cleaned & lubed my chain yesterday and things felt pretty smooth and efficient this morning. Passed one women on an MTB. Saw a couple of cyclists going the other way.

Didn't do any long rides over the weekend, but did some hiking and played in the ocean.
Put a new cog and chain on this weekend so everything was running super smooth and stealthy. The weather for the rest of the week looks perfect so I may schedule a longer ride some night after work.

Since my office was closed down and I started working from home I have had no reason to post in this thread. No more. My son learned how to ride without training wheels yesterday and wanted to ride to school this morning. So, we headed out on a 2 mile RT commute that stopped at a park to play since we left 30 min early. The kid and I loved the ride.

Nice day - felt like fall. Big storm over the weekend caused some trees to go down, but there was a crew already cleaning up the MUP this morning. I took it easy today since I did my first century on Saturday! Of course, I'm not the fastest commuter anyway. Still, no lingering effects from Saturday's long ride. :-)

Flatted halfway in this morning, and had already left the house a little later than usual. D'oh!
My opinion stands - I don't mind doing a wheel removal with the nexus-8 shifting cable one bit, nope. I can do that pretty quickly. What I DO mind, however is doing a wheel removal with the Nexus-8 stuff AND the roller brake
. Not the smoothest of operations when fixing a flat on a sidewalk.
My next IGH commuter will have an alfine with discs. Done.
Other than that, it was an absolutely gorgeous morning. Low clouds, cool, dramatic light as the sun poked through the clouds and illuminated portions of the mountains. Stunning.

well today i was able to start commuting again. the office moved so hadn't had a chance to ride this way yet.
I was pleasantly surprised that it only took me about 40min to go 9miles. this with a headwind and me trying to take it easy so to not get to sweaty.
The ride home should be fast and fun. One other perk of this office is that my bike is parked next to my desk.
I'm hoping to be able to commute 3 days a week.
