Wax Poetic

Recently there was a thread on Surly LHT's. A common metaphor used for them is that they are like a cadillac. Meaning they have a smooth, stead ride. I have been thinking about this car : bike metaphor and on my ride home today I came up with this one for my Masi Speciale CX. It's like a Porsche Cayenne (depending on the engine-you). It handles beautifully on the road, has ample power and responsiveness. it also is just as sleek off-road although one is ever mindful not to scratch the beautiful paint job! (just kidding, kind of)

That's it. That's my commute wax poetic.

Hmmm, I have a folding bike. I guess my Bike Friday Pocket Crusoe is like a James Bond car. Light, fast, maneuverable; then it transforms, and you can wipe out the bad guys in their secret volcano lair as their security system is set to trigger on 700c wheels but doesn't pick up the 406 stealth riding Crusoe. But then it also has a rack and is built for carrying a load, so after you save [insert hot bond girl name here] she can ride on the back while the whole island implodes cause the bald, maniacal evildoer had just enough time to press the big, red, Easy Self Destruct button before you sent him hurdling back into space from when he came.

If the surly is a cadillac than what's my Riv? A Bentley?

Nice analogy, but where are the pics? I've been lusting for a Speciale CX and the only Masi dealer within 100 miles has no Masis at all.

I've used metaphors like this often...and I try to keep them country, or region specific, I suppose...

My Raleigh Professional (Hobbes) is like an Aston Martin Vanquish. Stylish, sexy, insanely fast, but refined enough that it's not a neanderthal.

My Univega Activa Trail (Calvin) is like a Subaru Outback. Hauls a crapload, is comfortable, can go anywhere (with 21 speeds and 700X38 tires), and is comfortable, but not so much over uber-long distances

My Peugeot UO-8 (Suzie) is my Nissan Altima Coupe (because of the Renault-NIssan connection, it works...shut up!) - comfortable, quick and nimble, can go for quite a while, yet doesn't have the speed or the class of the Aston (Raleigh)

And finally, my Western Flyer (Wormwood)...well...how to sum up? Ah, I know, a picture!

WEll, maybe not THAT bad...but you get the idea.

Well lets see...
My 90s Iron Horse AT-50 (babe) with Moustache bars is like a toyota pickup, not the fastest or the prettiest but will last FOREVER...she just keeps going (rigid mtb with 2.00" BAs rear rack and a 27 speed touring drivetrain)

The Falcon San Remo conversion fixie (pegeen) is (a) red(head)...a little twitchy hard to handle sometimes, but will always take care of you and is dependable as hell. Forget the car analogy, she is an irish lass.

Bianchi San Jose = Subaru Impreza wagon. Sporty and practical.
Giant OCR C3 = Mazda Miata. Thoroughly useless, but fun to drive.
Specialized Hardrock = Willy's Jeep. Slow, ugly, and pretty much indestructable.
