Front Rack

1. Will this front rack work with my bike? https://cgi.ebay.com/BIKE-PANNIERS-FR...ayphotohosting
2. If not, what kind of rack will work?
3. What is the total load limit on the above rack?

Disc brakes and suspensions are generally known for causing fit issues with front racks. Don't know about that model tho...

I would recommend finding a disc brake/suspension capable model and then search ebay for that particular one. Or check with the LBS if there's a good store in your area.

That kind of rack could probably be made to work. It will attach easily to your brake bosses. The issue will be with attaching the upper support to something. You need at least 3 points of attachment for the rack to work. You can mcguiver something to the fork brace. Your brace looks like it may have a hole in it already.

Can't really answer the carrying capacity question. I'm not the familiar with the rack. For other racks, Tubus makes the Swing but that's an extremely expensive solution.

Old Man Mountain makes something similar but they aren't too much cheaper.

Yes, my fork has a tiny hole in the middle so I suppose I could mount it. I read the limit is 15 pounds, yes?

That rack is the infamous $7.00 Nashbar front rack. I've got one on my brevet bike, I use it to hold a Nashbar Elite handlebar bag I modified to mount on the rack. I've also got my headlight bolted to the rack.
There's good and bad points about it:

Good - It's cheap. It's simple to mount. It holds a decent amount of stuff and perfectly fits a 6-pack. It lasts forever, too. I've had mine for 4 years of daily commuting, century and double-C rides, and now it's on my brevet bike. For the price, you can't beat it.
Bad - The crown mount it comes with is crap. Go to the hardware store, buy some 1/16th strip steel and fashion your own crown mount for it. The mounting bolts (for mounting the crown mount tab to the rack platform) are crap. Buy some stainless #8 machine screws, lock washers and nylock nuts. Total for all of it is about $5, and you'll thank me when you hit some bumps and you don't lose your beer to a flimsy crown mount.

You can put more than 15 pounds on it, but I don't suggest it for long or rough rides, or on a routine basis.

Cool, thanks for the info. So what's the best place to buy this Nashbar rack? Ebay has it for $7 plus $8 shipping!

There have been issues with this rack bought off Ebay, they seem to be seconds. Go to Nashbar and buy it. I got mine from a poster on this forum, works great.

Looks like $13 on nashbar atm, slap a coupon code on it and you should be good to go.

So does the nashbar front rack have pannier support? I saw on their site that they also sell the nashbar front bag, which is not only a top bag but also has panniers on it. Would the panniers get in the way of the wheels?

That little rack is not suitable for panniers.

I put a similar rack on my front suspension bike. No problems. I would not buy this one for carrying panniers. I put a mesh basket on top of mine. Works great.
