Commuter's coffee addiction
I finally combined my two true addictions ... biking and coffee. Just bought a Soma Fab Coffee mug and holder for my bike. Freakin' expensive though. I paid $50 CDN I have a feeling that the calories I'm burning on my commute are just enough to counter the calory intake from my double double. Oh well, I needs me coffee at the end of my ride.
Anybody else need to take your coffee along on your commute?

Double what?
If you want to save a small fortune and reduce your caloric intake, I can strongly recommend an automatic espresso machine. Refill it regularly with water (the distilled stuff in jugs from the grocery store is recommended - it keeps them from gumming up) and coffee beans, and you can make yourself a triple-shot cafe au lait for about $0.25 USD ($0.29 CDN).
Or you can just drink a cup of five shots of espresso. There's plenty of time to sleep when you're dead!

I picked up a $10 'spill proof' coffee cup from Target, and it fit in the bottle cage. There was a button to seal the lid, and it was stainless steal. It was simply awesome until i lost it.

I have an insulated coffee mug that has a groove on it to fit just perfect in a bottle cage. My LBS was selling them about a year ago but I haven't seen them sense. Works great.

$50 seems a little high. What about this option from nashbar
https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...00_10000_16502
it's only 13 bucks, and you'd have to buy a mug, except if you already have one. Looks like it might be universal fit for most insulated mugs, or maybe any paper cup you got from you're favorite coffee shop. And 13 bucks!

You guys are missing the point ... I'm talking about the morning coffee. The essential start to the morning. I'm hoping the Soma Fab holds at least a large Tim Horton's. Hmmm coffee.

I've got a similar one from Wally's for $10. instead of a handle, it's got a hole near the top that I looped a string with a caribeaner through and then I clip it to the cage. Plus, mine's got rubber grip most of the way around which helps it stay put.

Well it might not be as frugal as I thought after they ship it to Ontario, plus it doesn't have the handy feature of the quick release like the one you bought.

Well his title for the post was "Coffee Addiction"... Just sayin... A person addicted to coffee might find non-coffee caffeine vehicles inadequate, I know I can't get too jazzed over carbonated energy drinks in the morning! Not better, just different?

I have a 12oz vacuum bottle from REI. Fits in the side pocket of my frontbag.

I almost went home with a coffee-cup handlebar mount holder when I stopped at the LBS tonight for some other gear. Almost... It was only a $15 version, but when I looked at it and the label explained that it was for the usual paper coffee cups, that settled the issue. I can't see a paper cup and lid holding up well enough to not spill over curbs and bumps in the road.
I have a thermal Congtigo super-seal mug that fits in my regular bottle cage and I just have them put my coffee in there. I'm not a latté froo-froo double-whatevah drinker though. Just black coffee with a splash of half-and-half, so the calorie burn isn't much of a concern. But I DO have to have my coffee in the a.m.
Now if they just had a handlebar-mounted sink so I could conveniently brush my teeth post-coffee and pre-arrival at the office, I'd be in great shape

And I think the OP was referring to $50 Canadian - a little bit different in translation to US $, but not by much these days .
The model I was looking at, not fancy, but much like the Nashbar and REI versions suggested - BYOMug.
$13-17US + a $10 mug, would be about the same as OP paid for his nice set-up.

you'll have to let us know how it works out?
I bought one of those a year ago purely for the novelty of the thing (for much less $$ too!) i used it exactly once.
Every little usually-unnoticeable bump in the road brought a wave of coffee splashing out of the thing (and i'd only filled it 1/2 way fearing that would happen). The lid on that cup is a plain old POS. After 4 blocks half the coffee had spilled out all over me and my bike i just dumped it in a sewer and kept going.
Anyone want one on the cheap? It's been sitting in the corner since i washed it that night, hosed the bike off, did the laundry and took a shower. Some things just weren't meant to be and that Soma Coffee Cup thing is one of them
forgive my rant but i was supremely let down by that thing - you're better off just letting the coffee cool down a little and then dumping it over your head at the first stop light, you're more likely to get to drink some.

I don't want to know how you know this.
The original Rockstar and the diet version taste like liquid SweetTart candies.
I can't even stand to smell coffee brewing. Not sure what I could compare that smell to, but how about feeding your moose some asparagus and letting me know the results of your taste test! Bet it's pretty close to coffee.

I'm a tea drinker. I got one of these from Trek. It's designed to fit in the water bottle cage.
By the way, at least a few recent studies seem to indicate that caffeine improves both athletic performance and recovery.

Best coffee-taker-wither evarrrrrr!
Keeps my joe hot from 6am until noon.
I don't drink it while riding. The office coffee is horrendous. Being free doesn't make up for its horrendousness.
